2020.07.07 13:32 Some_Folk Honestly I hope Nacon reads this, I've spent quite some time for this post.

Dear Nacon, Please read this.

The following list is a compilation of all the wish lists and features that TDU fans including me have said so far... would be bonkers if they really read this mate!
These features are not in TDU2 but were available in TDU1 ... And we suggest to re-add them in TDU3 .
  1. Immersive Dynamic Audio System : In TDU unlike TDU 2 you can hear the ambient audios when driving ... This makes the whole world of TDU bloody immersive !! While in TDU2 the ambient sounds stop playing when you drive your car faster than 45 KM/h or so . Comparing to TDU1 TDU2's audio has never been immersive and its Audio system worsened it. The only good thing in terms of the TDU2's Audio is the sound effects in the safe houses! TDU 1 > TDU2 in terms of Audio !
  2. The chillaxing situation : Unlike The Crew game TDU is NOT an Adrenaline-Intense game ... This game should not be about intense jumps nor unrealistic stunts ... it would be pretty alien for TDU atmosphere if you guys add these too arcade stuff . TDU has never been a simulator and it should not be but don't make TDU3 a too childish arcade game IMO ... Getting points for ridiculous jumps and weird stunts doesn't fit TDU !!!!
  3. Keyboard H-Gate + Clutch only for the cars that have manual gearbox in real life : TDU1 has "H-Gate and Clutch" option for Keyboard and Joystick users ... You had to use hacking/Key-mapping tools to get the gearing and using the clutch to work in TDU2 ... We don't want that . We want TDU3 to feature a clutch key just like TDU1
  4. More detailed Audio Settings : Unlike TDU2 TDU1 had way more detailed audio settings system and I actually use all of them to make the TDU1 world more immersive !
  5. MP3 and M3U support : TDU1 lets you add M3U files and playlists to your custom radio station! The custom radio station is useful and easier than playing a music in an external app !!
  6. Longer & more populated tyre smoke : Unlike the shambles particle system of TDU2 , TDU1 has a better and kind of brilliant tyre smoke FX ... The tyre smoke last longer in the air and it just looks better in TDU1 !!!!
  7. More options in Photography mode : Unlike TDU2 TDU1 has many more controls in the Photography mode ... You can add filters hide driver change date and weather... would be handy to recycle those for TDU3 !
  8. Start button : In TDU ( unlike TDU2 ) you can start your car by pressing a key . This made the game a bit more realistic than TDU2 :]
  9. The fast camera transition mode : In TDU 1 you can change the transition speed of the camera by holding the C ( Camera ) key I found it super handy :]
  10. The additional camera modes : In TDU 1 there is a camera mode that changes its FOV based on the speed of your car. And I found myself using that camera mode a lot and missed it in TDU2. Would be fancy if you also add a Cinematic Camera mode ( just the like GTA's ) as well !
  11. Hardcore mode / G-Metre : I am not a big fan of the hardcore mode of TDU but it made that old arcade physics system a bit challenging and refreshes the game after a while . Plus that game-play mode never interfered in Multiplayer ... !
  12. Various weather options : TDU1 has more weather settings than TDU2 would be great to include more weather options like rain rainbows overcast semi-cloudy extra sunny stormy windy ... :]
  13. Realistic road lines and road signs: You literally could use the road lanes and road signs in TDU1 unlike in TDU2 . not to mention that the road lanes of the roads of TDU1 actually have meanings !!!!
  14. Floating leaves, newspaper and other particles : Unlike TDU2 You could see leaves and newspapers and leafs floating around . That feature is pretty fancy enough to add to TDU3 for more immersion :]
  15. Ship sounds : In TDU We could hear sounds from ships
  16. Radio off by turning the volume to zero : In TDU ( unlike TDU2 ) you could just turn off the radio if you set the radio vol to zero. TDU2 missed this feature !!!!
  17. Real dead-end roads : The asphalt road of TDU2 is way unfinished than TDU1 and we don't want that for TDU3. For example in TDU2 you could drive to a deadend road where the asphalt suddenly goes from asphalt to literal nothing . You can add dirt or broken asphalt effect to the roads to make them more realistic !
  18. Wind/Sound distortion : In TDU ( unlike TDU2 ) you can hear the wind / Sound distortion . Would be wicked to re-add this feature in TDU3
  19. Faster UI : The UI system of TDU2 is too slow while TDU1 has a better UI system in terms of the transition speed !!!!
  20. Windows affect audio sound : When closing / opening car windows in TDU1 the sound would change accordingly
  21. The electricity lines movement : When it is windy the lines shake quickly in TDU1 !!!!
  22. Realistic and way detailed car data sheets : The car data sheet of the car dealers and the garage is more detailed and informative than TDU2 making TDU1 a bit more serious driving game
  23. Tachometer : I could easily tell which car is my favourite with that feature ! also I imagined engine oil change timing and stuff like that ... don't judge me lol!
  24. Realistic gauges : Each of the cars in TDU1 has their own realistic gauge !!!!
  25. Physics system : Last but not least I have to mention the physics system although they're gonna use a much better one anyway . TDU1 physics was ace if you compare it to the one for TDU2 !!!
So these were the quirks and features that were in TDU1 unlike TDU2 . And we think those must be in TDU3 too .

These features were later added to TDU2 and we think it is wicked to see them back in TDU3 !
  1. On foot : Playing the character on foot for some scenes made the game more immersive!
  2. Hairstylists : Going to a barbershop and modifying player's hairstyle I suggest to add more long hairstyle options as well as wigs !!!!
  3. Face lifting : TDU1 and TDU2 both let you modify player's face however in TDU2 you can go to a clinic and it is wicked !!!
  4. Various clothing items : In TDU2 there are more items to choose like hats and stuff . which is good to be frank !!!!
  5. House Modification : There is a feature to customise the house to make'em feel more homie pretty neat . Definitely suggest to re-add this feature in TDU3 !
  6. Weather forecast : You can switch on the TV to see the weather forecast was great and had good UI also !
  7. Day/Night cycle : Although it is better than only-day cycle I'd say shorten the night cycle and have more daylight :]
  8. Detailed house tour : In TDU1 there is a house tour feature but in TDU2 that is more detailed in Real Estate agencies !!!!
  9. Casino : How would you be able to pretend you're rich but can't do what rich people do?! Casinos should be in TDU3 . The cut scenes should also be there !!!!
  10. Rain : Rain effects in TDU2 are okay at least it is better than nothing!
  11. Off Road : SUVs and offroad settings in TDU2 is a good idaea perhaps TDU3 would have it .
  12. Timed missions : the one-time missions the ones that you can't retry later if you either miss them or do them are great to once again be in TDU3 . However I'd say add more variety so that they won't look repetitive !!!!
  13. Road Exploration Score : The more you drive the more score you get which in return gives you ability to buy more items . That TDU2 idaea forces players to explore and learn the map :]
  14. Landscape Exploration Score : There are landmarks that player can take a photo and get more exploration ( or "discovering" iirc ) score . This also makes players to be more familiar with Hawaii or Ibiza . Good stuff for TDU3 also !
  15. Abandoned car parts : The "Barn find" feature is a great mini game for TDU2 TDU3 needs this for sure !
  16. Ocean and beach with better graphics : The graphics of ocean in TDU2 has sea foam and depth in it the beaches are more detailed too !!!!
  17. Sticker and livery shop : The decal / sticker / livery shop in TDU2 is good an updated version would also be good for TDU3 :]
  18. Second handed car dealers : You've gotta use those cars to get the fancy Yacht quicker !
  19. Retractable car roofs: Not sure why but when it was sunny in the game I had to remove the roof and vise-versa! Gotta love doing it again in TDU3 !
  20. Blinkers : Using them did not affect the traffic cars in TDU2 but perhaps in TDU3 this also could be a thing ?!!!
  21. Car Details : Gearing animation Wing and spoiler animation etc etc etc !!!!
  22. Car damage : TDU1 did not have car damage TDU2 had fake damage, I'd expect TDU3 to have a better damage simulation . something like soft-body would be bloody wicked!!!!!
  23. Car wash : car washes with more realistic characters and animation would be nice to have in TDU3 !!!!!
  24. Fishes, those cats and the small details : TDU2 sometimes looked more immersive because of the smaller details that weren't in TDU1 . However I'm not sure if there're birbs flying in TDU2 TDU3 better have all these animals and some!!!!!
  25. Detailed navy ships and buildings : Hawaii in TDU2 is simply more detailed than TDU1 . We expect the same for the next TDU3 and a TDU game without Honolulu is a like a Fast and Furious movie but without manual gearbox cars ! :]
So these were the quirks and features that were in TDU2 . And we think those have to be in TDU3 too .
Cheers mate ! :]
- From the TDU community all around the world , and me here in the sunny Australia !

There's genuinely nothing quite like American optimism. `I know, I know... the done thing is to shit-talk America in threads like this, but speaking as a Brit, that's what really makes the USA special and relatively unique in terms of national histories. America is a country that's (at least theoretically) built on the idea of equality and justice quite literally for all. You had the sheer brass balls to put a big ol' statue up at one of the most trafficked entryways in the world -- yes, yes, OP's momma notwithstanding -- that literally asked the world to give you its tired, its poor, its huddled masses yearning to breathe free. You built an entire mythology around the idea that, by pulling together and with a little elbow grease, you can make something of yourself no matter where you start from.` Is it true? No, not completely -- not for a lot of people. But it *is* important. It's a hardscrabble world out there, and the idea that Americans are better because they'll do the right thing, the honourable thing, the *decent* thing no matter how hard that might be makes things a little bit brighter. It's important that the first thing countless immigrants got to see wasn't a display of America's power and strength and prosperity but of America's guidance: a torchlight in the darkness. That most mythological of figures, Superman, espouses the idea of Truth, Justice and the *American* Way for a reason. That's not because it's the way things are, but because it's the way things can be. It's something to aspire to. It's Atticus Finch and Jefferson Smith and Rocky Balboa and the Little Engine That Could. `You lose your way sometimes -- and you really, *really* do lose your way; no one should dispute that, especially given recent events -- but you're never so far gone that you can't pull your way back. America is one of very, very few countries where you always feel that that return is both possible, and something that you root for. It's the world's largest superpower that has never quite learned that it isn't the plucky underdog.` Don't let that optimism and hope for the future die out. Don't let the feeling that you can step up and change things even when the odds seem stacked against you become apathy, hate and fear. Don't be afraid to learn, to improve, to be better. I spend a *lot* of time writing about American politics, and I know full well how stressful it can be, but without hope there can be no change for the better. Improvement is aspirational, and it depends on people getting out there and choosing to try, even when it looks and feels like it makes no difference at all -- because it still does. ` If anything, that's when it matters the most -- and it's worth keeping.`

That takes me back :) - So much has happened since that first comment... I was in a pretty dark place when I started looking for laughs with this. I had just finished cleaning out my fathers house after his death... official cause of death was \"unknown due to decomposition\" and I had been tasked to clean out his house where his body had been found. It was 100+ degrees around his house when he died and he didn't have an A/C unit. His body decomposed quickly and pretty much melted into the floor. The mattress he had died on was obviously removed... and so was the floor under it... and then the dirt under the subfloor needed to be excavated... I could never get that smell of death out of my mind and had to deal with it for the 30 days while I packed up his belongings. While cleaning out his house I found 3 suicide notes in envelopes next to several empty pill bottles... also a book on different ways of committing suicide earmarked. Most of his belongings had to be tossed out as everything smelled like death... I wasn't in a good financial place and was living in an old RV parked on some abandoned property. It was in the old RV sitting at the \"kitchen table\" when this all started - and after that first comment I laughed out loud for about 10 minutes. ` Things got better for me for a while... Bitcoin went through the roof and I had managed to get my hands on a few - so when it hit 15k or so I sold them. Bought myself a good car, sold that RV, and moved into a rental house. From there life has had it's ups and downs but that was def. a low point for me when this started... a VERY low point. In a weird way the entire Undertaker thing was a way for me to laugh and smile - something I didn't do much back then. Anyway, I know most of you are expecting this end a certain way but I wanted to get serious for a minute and mention what all this means to me. Thank you all for laughing with me... it really means a lot to me. <3 - SM`

That's really sad. Like, really sad. I'm all for having hobbies and doing what you enjoy, but sitting on your ass 10 hours a day, *every day*, is downright pitiful. I love video games as much as the next person but I wish gamers would stop glorifying this kind of activity. It's not healthy nor impressive. Working 70 hours a week is extremely unhealthy, which is basically what this guy did, and he didnt even get paid.

Did Extraterrestrials from Venus make contact in 1952 ? [MEGA THREAD] + videos and pictures and illustrations
by Michael Salla (original author) December 2017

Part 1
December 12, 2017

French researcher Michel Zirger has written a highly detailed book on extraterrestrial contact which highlights the encounters of George Adamski with alleged extraterrestrials from Venus.
In We Are Here - Visitors without a Passport (2017), Zirger provides a solid overview of a collection of photos and testimonies backing up Adamski's famed November 20, 1952 encounter near Desert Center, California.
Zirger points out that Adamski's encounter was the first documented contact case with an occupant from a flying saucer craft, widely believed to be a Venusian extraterrestrial.
Six witnesses saw two UFO craft on the day of Adamski's encounter.
The first was a large cigar shaped craft that flew overhead, and the second was a smaller saucer shaped scout craft that landed. From the scout craft an occupant emerged to meet with Adamski, who claimed to be from the planet Venus and went by the name, Orthon.
In his book, Zirger includes digitally enhanced copies of the original photos taken at Adamski's encounter which show both the scout craft hovering before landing, and its occupant who emerged after the landing.
The photos were enhanced by Danish artist Rene Erik Olsen who has made the Desert Landing photos available on his website.

(C) Rene Erik Olsen 2017

The following photo is an enhancement of a person (Orthon) walking from the direction of the landed scout craft towards Adamski.
Discussion and close-ups are available in We Are Here.

https://preview.redd.it/6cpsz2nhb0b41.jpg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e639431d60d0d026ce5b3932cc953ecb5fd51c45

The six witnesses to the landing and Adamski's encounter with its occupant signed an affidavit supporting Adamski's version of events that was subsequently published in his 1953 co-written book, The Flying Saucers Have Landed.
Zirger cites one of the witnesses, George Hunt Williamson, who was recorded to say during a lecture:
I would like to reaffirm here that the experience, as George Adamski has related in The Flying Saucers Have Landed, where my wife and I, along with friends of ours, were witnesses to the occurrence, happened exactly as Mr. Adamski mentions there in Flying Saucers Have Landed: the large craft was witnessed, and then through binoculars we did witness the other happenings about a mile away on the desert…
We did see Mr. Adamski talking to someone… at a distance. We saw the large craft. We saw flashes of light from it, from which we later learned the smaller craft had come out of the larger one.
We did see a great opening in the bigger craft through which the smaller scout-ship must have originally left the larger ship…
We did see the small ship as it hovered in the saddle [see abovephoto of the base of the small hills where Adamski was standing]. Kindle Edition 5203-10
Despite the compelling evidence, Adamski's 1952 encounter was widely debunked.
Zirger discusses the shocking extent to which evidence and testimonies supporting Adamski's famous Desert Center landing was dismissed, ridiculed or distorted by leading scientists of the era such as,
Dr. Donald Menzel Dr. Jacques Vallee Dr. Carl Sagan
Most UFO researchers have ever since dismissed Adamski as a hoaxer, despite the compelling evidence suggesting otherwise. Indeed, Adamski's photos of flying saucers and cigar shaped ships dating from 1950 have never been shown to be forgeries.
Adamski believed that the being who emerged from the landed scout craft in 1952 was from Venus.
Zirger discusses the feasibility of Adamski's belief given scientific data that subsequently emerged showing the surface of Venus as uninhabitable due to the high temperatures (462°C - 863° F) and crushing atmospheric pressure (92 times that of Earth).
Zirger discusses a number of possibilities for how extraterrestrials may inhabit Venus. He suggests that NASA may be lying about the horrific conditions on the surface of Venus.
Another possibility is that extraterrestrials merely have a base there and came from elsewhere in the galaxy.
Yet, another possibility is that extraterrestrials live in the subterranean regions of Venus as made feasible by recent scientific research.
He cites Sean McMahon, who led a scientific team from the University of Aberdeen, that claimed life could evolve inside a planet's interior, well away from an inhospitable surface:
The surfaces of rocky planets and moons that we know of are nothing like Earth.
They're typically cold and barren with no atmosphere or a very thin or even corrosive atmosphere. Going below the surface protects you from a whole host of unpleasant conditions on the surface.
So the subsurface habitable zone may turn out to be very important.
Earth might even be unusual in having life on the surface.
Zirger appears to favor the "New Age" explanation that a highly evolved civilization, which "ascended" to another dimensional plane, exists today under the surface of Venus.
He suggests that on the surface of Venus, today, there may be only rare vestiges of the ancient civilization that once thrived on the surface.
Zirger cites a range of esoteric texts and sources supporting the idea that an advanced civilization exists on Venus, but is hidden from modern telescopes and planetary probes sent by different national space agencies.
For example, he refers to the 1899 book, A Dweller of Two planets:
"No telescope will ever reveal life on Venus: not that it is not there, but its forms are of the One Substance effected by a range of force rendering them imperceptible to earthly eyes."
There have been a number of contactees who claim to have met Venusians from the interior of the planet, well away from telescopes and space probes.
These include Frank Stranges, author of the book, Stranger at the Pentagon

Eisenhower video

More recently, Goode, claims he was taken to Venus where he saw some of the ancient structures he calls "builder race technologies" on the planet's surface.
[W]e headed towards Venus at a super high rate of speed, punching through the thick clouds.
I barely could perceive yellowish color, we went through them so fast. And then we stopped about 1,000 feet [305 meters] above the ground, and I was looking around, and I saw this terrain that looked like it had been eroded by lots of wind and rain, sort of like you would see in Earth.
They looked like they used to be mountains going up that had eroded away, and they looked almost like people. It looked almost carved by an intelligent hand.
So I was noticing that, when all of a sudden the ceiling and the floor went transparent…
And I looked down, and I could see the big, giant, H-shaped building sitting inside this crater.

Giant H Shaped stone structure in a crater on Venus surface according to Corey Goode.

This account has parallels to the alleged visit to Venus by Bolivian contactee Luis Mostajo Fernando who says the entered into a fertile area of Venus protected by an energy shield.
Fernando and other accounts of visits to Venus does support an ancient civilization once inhabited its surface, and that subterranean areas exist that support current life there.
Zirger's discussion of the explanations for Orthon's claim to be from Venus despite its inhospitable surface conditions is wide ranging and informative.
Yet it is in another possibility that Zirger raises that may offer a more accurate way of viewing Adamski's 1952 encounter.
Zirger questions whether Adamski was fed disinformation by Orthon about Venus being his true origin:
Was Adamski manipulated by a "pseudo-Venusian"?
Was this Venusian origin part of a smokescreen or of some sort of extraterrestrial "communication plan" to awaken our consciousness to the idea of extraterrestrial life?…
The underlying motto of this "communicating strategy" would then be something like: "Let's tell lies, let's tell lies, there will still be something left over," ...Adamski being considered not much more than an interface to a disinformation or deception game. Kindle Edition, 1032 of 5403
Zirger believes that the possible disinformation was designed to protect the true origins of Orthon and his spacecraft being learned.
Zirger expressed puzzlement over why extraterrestrials from another solar system would want to pretend to be from an uninhabitable world from our own solar system:
"Why such a masquerade when they could have simply said they were from the planet T of the solar system Y? Kindle Edition, 1042 of 5403
Zirger overlooks an 'earth-centric' explanation for the disinformation that may have been fed to Adamski.
This is raised by one of the contact cases mentioned by Zirger in We Are Here.
He cites the 1957 case of Reinhold Schmidt:
I would like to quote briefly a last case, that of Reinhold O. Schmidt, 60 at the time, a Bakersfield (Calif.) grain buyer.
On November 5, 1957, he claimed to have spoken for about 30 minutes to the crew of a large silver cigar-shaped UFO that had allegedly landed near Kearney on the Nebraska prairie to make repairs.
In an available one-hour-and-a-half tape-recorded interview Schmidt stated the crew was composed of "four men and two ladies."
They all spoke to him "in American language with a German accent," but at times he seemed to him that he could hear them talking among themselves in "high German language, very good high German." Kindle Edition, 526-531
The Schmidt case raises the question,
was Orthon part of a German Secret Space Program and was only pretending to be a Venusian?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2 Did German Astronaut Pretend to be from Venus
during Adamski 1952 Encounter? December 14, 2017

Above Part One in this series, raised the possibility that George Adamski was fooled into believing that Venus was the origin of Orthon, the flying saucer occupant he met in December 1952.
There are a number of aspects about Adamski's 1952 contactee case that leads to the conclusion that Orthon was part of a German secret space program, and/or linked to an extraterrestrial alliance that had actively helped Nazi Germany leading up to and during World War.
The flying saucers that Adamski had photographed very closely resembled the Haunebu antigravity craft that had allegedly been developed in Nazi Germany.
The exact specifications of the Haunebu craft contained in Nazi SS files were first released by Vladimir Terziski, an engineer and former member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The Nazi files were released after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact on February 25, 1991, and came into Terziski's possession after he had immigrated to the US in 1984.
Below is a comparison of a 1943 design of a Haunebu II flying saucer craft being developed by the Nazi SS for the war effort, and a scout craft photographed by Adamski in December 1952.

https://preview.redd.it/zgno4cewb0b41.jpg?width=547&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81aca4c606af99a36dd049bb57c5a7facde0f440

Note the major point of difference is that the Nazi craft had some kind of artillery device signifying an attempt at weaponizing flying saucer craft for the war effort.
Indeed, in 1950, articles appeared in major newspapers around the world citing interviews with prominent Italian and German scientists who confirmed that the Axis powers had been cooperating in a secret effort to weaponize flying saucers.
The configuration of the 1943 Haunebu craft is so similar to those Adamski photographed in 1952 as to suggest that if not the same type of vehicle, then whoever developed the latter was at a similar technological level of development as the Germans in the mid-1940's.
Yet, if Orthon was from Venus, and part of an advanced interplanetary association as discussed by Zirger in his book, We Are Here - Visitors without a Passport (2017), then,
how could the first generation of Nazi flying saucers have been almost identical to craft used in a far more technologically evolved interplanetary society?
One explanation is that extraterrestrials had provided craft to Nazi Germany so that they could be reverse engineered.
This is supported by information provided by former aerospace engineer, William Tompkins, who says that US Navy spies had reported during their debriefings at Naval Air Station, San Diego, from 1942 to 1946, that the Germans had been given over a dozen models of operational antigravity spacecraft.
The Nazis were furiously attempting to reverse engineer these for the war effort, but were ultimately unsuccessful as far as their European based programs were concerned.
Tompkins' information helps us understand that the 1943 Haunebu II diagram was an attempt by the Nazis to weaponize an antigravity flying saucer, which had been given to Hitler's Third Reich by extraterrestrial allies as a result of a secret agreement.

Therefore, Orthon may have only pretended to be from Venus, in order to hide the existence of a German space program that had survived World War II.
Orthon only communicated with Adamski non-verbally using sign language during the 1952 Desert Center encounter.
Adamski explained in a lecture that Orthon,
"spoke mostly in a strange dialect wholly unintelligible to Adamski". We Are Here
Was the "strange dialect" High German which, as mentioned in Part 1 far above, of this series, Reinhold Schmidt identified as being used by the spacecraft occupants during his 1957 contact experience.
Schmidt had a German background and was also taught High German at school, but Adamski may have not been able to identify German dialects since his background was Polish-American.
Alternatively, Adamski may have known that Orthon spoke German, but was not allowed to publicly reveal this for national security reasons.
It has long been rumored that after each of his extraterrestrial contact experiences, Adamski was secretly flown from California to the Pentagon by the U.S. Air Force where he was debriefed about his contacts.
In May 2009, a rare video was released containing interviews with various witnesses who knew about Adamski and his secret debriefings at the Pentagon.
The witnesses confirmed that Adamski possessed a military ordnance ID card which allowed him access into the Pentagon. The military ID was witnessed by several people, who had worked in various Department of Defense positions.
Among the witnesses was William Sherwood who had previously worked for the U.S. Army Ordnance Department) and possessed his own Ordnance pass.
Sherwood saw Adamski's Ordnance pass and confirmed its authenticity.

Sherwood's and other supporting testimony gives credence to rumors that Adamski was indeed secretly briefing the Pentagon about his extraterrestrial contacts.
In 1952, the Pentagon was well aware that a German Space Program had survived World War II and had begun operating over U.S. territory.
Senior Pentagon officials wanted this to be kept secret. Consequently, it is very possible that Adamski was told not to say anything about Orthon speaking German to prevent the public from learning the truth.
The possibility that Orthon was part of a German Secret Space Program, based in Antarctica, which was operating over U.S. territory, is strengthened by events leading up to the 1952 Washington Flyover.
This occurred only months before Adamski's encounter with Orthon

Part 3 Pentagon Hid German Secret Space Program Link to Alien Contact Cases December 16, 2017

t was found in part 2 above of this series that George Adamski was very likely ordered by the Pentagon to withhold important elements of his alleged 1952 extraterrestrial contact that suggested the existence of a German Secret Space Program in Antarctica.
Understanding why Adamski would have been ordered to do this, requires understanding events that occurred over five years earlier in Antarctica.
In the Southern Hemisphere summer of 1946/1947 Admiral Richard Byrd led a large Naval task force to Antarctica during Operation Highjump with secret orders to flush out any Nazis that had established secret bases in the frozen continent.
This was not the first time Byrd had been given secret orders to flush out Nazis hidden in Antarctica.
Seven years earlier, in mid-1939 Byrd had been commanded by President Franklin Roosevelt to lead a Naval expedition to Antarctica to determine whether Nazi bases in Antarctica violated the Monroe Doctrine.
The New York Time reported on July 7, 1939:
President Roosevelt moved today to prevent possible extension of Germany's claims to Antarctic areas into the Western Hemisphere by directing Real Admiral Richard E. Byrd to leave in October to territory within the sphere of influence of the Monroe Doctrine…
It [is] apparent that this government was prepared to take the position, if necessary, that any attempts by foreign powers to establish bases west of the 180th meridian in the Antarctic would be considered an unfriendly act…
Byrd's 1939/1940 expedition did not succeed in finding the German Antarctic bases, which were well hidden under the ice sheets.
Years later, during the Nuremburg War Crimes Trials, Admiral Donitz repeated his earlier wartime claims of having have used Germany's submarine fleet to build,
"an invulnerable fortress, a paradise-like oasis in the middle of eternal ice."
After the premature ending of Operation Highjump in February 1947, Byrd gave an interview in Chile on March 5 while traveling back to the U.S. where he spoke of an enemy that could fly from the South Pole region to attack the US:
Admiral Richard E Byrd warned today of the necessity for the United States to adopt protective measures against the possibility of an invasion of the country by hostile aircraft proceeding from the polar regions.
The admiral said: 'I do not want to scare anybody but the bitter reality is that in the event of a new war, the United States will be attacked by aircraft flying in from over one or both poles.'
The overall context of Byrd's interview suggested that the Germans had successfully weaponized their flying saucer craft and other advanced aerial vehicles to the extent that nothing possessed by the US Navy could match these in performance, weapons and range.
Indeed, only a few months after Byrd's interview, the Kenneth Arnold UFO incident occurred in June 1947, where he witnessed fleets of flying wing shaped craft over the Cascade mountains of Oregon and Washington State.

https://preview.redd.it/bisw6gfdc0b41.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=968376f1e8a5c42aea3da1964d82b803eca27345

The flying wing craft were very similar to what the Horton Brothers had been developing for Nazi Germany, one of which had been relocated to the U.S. after World War II.
It's feasible that successful prototypes had been developed and moved to Antarctica, and were by 1947 able to overfly U.S. territory.
Therefore, Admiral Byrd's warning had proved prescient insofar as the Germans based in Antarctica had the capacity to overfly US territory with impunity. Therefore, with the subsequent rise of the UFO sightings after the Arnold incident, it can be concluded some, if not many of these, could be connected to the German Space Program out of Antarctica.
In two successive weekends in July 1952, waves of UFOs flew over Washington DC.
Tens of thousands witnessed the flyovers which were photographed, caught on radar, and sighted by military pilots. The sightings were so dramatic that the US Air Force gave a Press Conference to dismiss it all as a "temperature inversion" weather anomaly.
For decades, the truth about the crafts origins was kept secret, but eventually it was revealed that the UFOs were in fact German flying saucers. Three insiders/whistleblowers were all made familiar with the German origins of the craft.
William Tompkins, a former aerospace engineer, Clark McClelland, a former NASA spacecraft operator, and Corey Goode, a former participant in a "20 and Back" US Navy space program, all said the same.
They had been either briefed or had learned that it was German antigravity spacecraft which had overflown Washington DC., in 1952.

VIDEO ufos in Washington

This raises a strong possibility that there is a direct connection between Adamski's 1952 encounter and the German space program that had initiated flyovers over US territory as suggested in the June 1947 Arnold incident and Byrd's March 1947 warning.
Furthermore, as discussed in part 2 above, the similarities between the "scoutcraft" witnessed by Adamski and the "Haunebu II" craft being developed by the Nazis for the War effort, does suggest that Germans had succeeded in moving some of their more advanced operational models to Antarctica.
The idea that some of the UFOs sighted over US territory were part of a German secret space program is strengthened by two additional UFO landing incidents during the 1950's, the same period that Adamski said he was having contact experiences with Venusians.
On January 7, 1956, Willard Wannall, a Master Sergeant with the US Army at the time, says that he saw a flying saucer land in a secluded area of Kaimuki, near Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was debriefed by US Army and US Air Force Intelligence officers at Fort Shafter where he was stationed, and wrote a 32 page report of the incident to his commanding officer.
While Wannall's brief description of the incident was mentioned in UFO sightings reports at the time, his detailed report about it has never been publicly released.
After retiring from the Army, he wrote a book about the incident in 1967, where he described how he was still under national security orders not to divulge key details about the incident:
However, it may be stated without jeopardizing the safety of my family and friends, or violating any security restrictions, that we witnessed the landing near our home of a clearly defined unconventional flying object which remained under our surveillance all of forty-five minutes prior to its departure.
In addition to myself, there were six other responsible, and highly respected individuals present, who viewed the details of this sighting alternately with and without the aid of high-powered binoculars.
Decades later, a reporter with the Maui UFO Report was able to interview Wannall before his 2000 passing, and the public was able to learn for the first time some of the key details of the UFO landing incident:
This time the bell shaped, silver, domed, port holed craft landed in the densely wooded hills behind Honolulu.
When Sergeant Wannall approached, a hatch opened. He noted the swastika and Nazi Iron Cross on both the UFO and the uniform of the occupant. The saucer pilot spoke with a German accent, and had a Nazi uniform on him!…
Sgt Wannall told us that escaped Nazis, who had flying saucers, had fled to South America and secret underground bases, below the Ice in Antarctica shortly before the Nazi war surrender. Hawaii UFO Magazine #2
Wannall's description of the craft matches closely what Adamski had photographed and witnessed in 1952, and the Haunbu II craft that had been secretly developed by Nazi Germany.

illustration

It is now understandable why Wannall's 32 page report about the 1956 incident was never publicly released under Project Blue Book, as it showed that a German Secret Space Program was actively overflying and landing all over US territories, including the Hawaiian Islands.
The fact that the pilot spoke with a German accent, wore a Nazi uniform, and was able to land near a US military base (Fort Shafter) shows that the occupants had no fear of being shot at.
This suggested that there had been some kind of agreement reached with US military authorities about German spacecraft flying over and landing on U.S. territory.
This finally brings us to the Reinhold Schmidt incident briefly mentioned in Part one.
Schmidt described meeting with the occupants of a flying saucer that landed on November 5, 1957 near Kearney, Nebraska. They spoke in German-accented English to him, and used High German when communicating among themselves.
In his book, Edge of Tomorrow, Schmidt wrote that he initially believed the six occupants were German scientists:
I thought that perhaps it might have come from Russia, and that it was manned by a crew of German scientists getting data on the first Russian Sputnik which had been launched about a week before.
After later being contacted by one of the occupants, Schmidt had further encounters and changed his mind about the craft's origins. He now referred to the craft's occupants as extraterrestrials from Saturn.
Like Adamski, Schmidt may have been misled by the craft's occupants to believe they were extraterrestrials despite the obvious signs that they were part of a German Secret Space Program operating long after the end of World War II.
Alternatively, again like Adamski, Schmidt may have been pressured by national security authorities to drop any public references to the spacecraft occupants being German astronauts.
This latter explanation is supported by the puzzling treatment Schmidt received by local authorities after reporting his initial 1957 contact.
The initial interest and friendly support which led to overnight national media exposure, shifted dramatically into outright hostility by local authorities after the arrival of two Air Force officials.
After extensive interviews and debriefings with multiple officials, the local and national media, and the Air Force officials Schmidt was pressured to recant his public testimony by the Chief of Police.
Schmidt was mysteriously jailed without charges for two days, and then committed to a mental institution in Hastings, Nebraska. All this was done without him being allowed legal representation.
He was eventually released after intervention by his family and employer.
The heavy pressure placed on Schmidt to change his story after the intervention of two USAF officials, clearly suggests that key elements of it threatened national security.
In fact his release from custody was likely a result of him agreeing to change key elements of his story.
Schmidt's testimony suggested, as in the cases of Adamski and Wannall, that craft belonging to a German Secret Space Program were actively overflying and landing on US territories.
Any reference to the German origin of the craft were downplayed, and instead references to extraterrestrials from Venus, Saturn or elsewhere were emphasized.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the material examined in this three part series of articles suggests that the George Adamski contactee case, as well as the Wannall and Schmidt cases, were very likely cases of US citizens interacting with members of a German Space Program operating out of Antarctica.
Both the occupants of the flying saucer craft, as well as the US military hid the German connection and encouraged the extraterrestrial hypothesis to explain their origin.
This is not to say that all alleged extraterrestrial contact cases really involve public interaction with members of a German secret space program operating out of Antarctica.
After all, the Germans had been helped by extraterrestrials who had supplied them with operational spacecraft for reverse engineering during World War II, and had helped the Germans establish their Antarctica bases.

Reptilians and Hitler connection VIDEO

Despite the extraterrestrial involvement in the German Space Program, there is a need to review the 1950's and 1960's contactee cases to determine the true origins of the alleged "Space Brothers", and Pentagon efforts to suppress the truth.
The US national security establishment encouraged the debunking of contactees such as Adamski, Schmidt and many others, not because they feared the public learning about extraterrestrial visitation, but because they feared the public learning the truth about the German breakaway colony in Antarctica.
The most powerful nation states of the era, the US, Britain, France and the Soviet Union did not want their citizens to learn that not only had a remnant of Nazi Germany survived World War II, but that its technological achievements in advanced aerospace technologies had become so dominant that the former Allied powers had nothing to match these with.
It was hoped that secret agreements, infiltration of German Antarctic facilities and deception would be the tools to bridge the technological gap.
In the meantime, the truth would be suppressed about the German connection to the "Space Brothers" encounters that Adamski, Schmidt, Wannall and other contactees began having in the 1950's.

2020.01.12 21:52 shedidntwakeup I think my landlord is trying to scam me?

I’ve been living in my current studio apartment (Honolulu, HI) with my boyfriend for going on 3 years coming up this April. The studio apartment is part of a bigger house, sectioned off into four units. When I first moved here, every other tenant occupying the other units were in some way related to the landlord (LL), which I was unaware of when I decided to move in. The landlord and owner of the house lives a little ways up the street from here and so he frequently comes by to visit his son and other family members.
This past December, my rent check bounced due to a check deposit taking much longer to go through than usual (normally takes about a day, for some reason took a week to deposit). My account was charged $30 for the bounced check, and my landlord’s son (LLS), who acts as a property manager, asked that I write a new check + the $10 fee he received to his account for the check bouncing + $25 late fee since the check was now late. Having had a someone else’s check bounce I knew that in such cases my bank would provide a photocopy cashable as a viable check for when said person’s account was in good standing. I asked him if he had received anything like it, and he claimed he had not been given anything and the bank had not let him know anything besides that the check has “canceled.” I told him that I had not canceled the check and that he should have received something like the photocopy I mentioned or had been told something by the bank’s representative.
After I let LLS know this he became defensive and repeatedly said I had canceled the check and how it would be so much easier if I just wrote a new check. I let him know I did not want to write a new check because I did not want two viable checks that could be cashed from my checking account. If I were to cancel the rent check I would be charged another fee of $30 by the bank. LLS simply responded that he didn’t know what the bank did with the original check, they just said it didn’t work.
I later called my bank to confirm that this was correct, and the bank let me know that he should receive a copy in 7-10 business days after he attempted to deposit the check. I offered a compromise that seemed fair to me; I could cancel the check for the bank’s fee of $30 but since it was my his request, that the $30 be deducted from the $35 fee he was charging me (late fee + his bank fee). Otherwise, the check should come by mail 7-10 business days after the check was supposed to be cashed. He seemed to become pretty agitated saying that he didn’t understand why I couldn’t just write another one (despite my repeated explanations) and that he “shouldn’t have to wait.”
It was already close to the next due date so I offered another compromise to write a check for the rent the next day once my check went through. Then once the check originally written for December comes in the mail he would have my rent for December and January. I offered this since LLS and presumably LL made it seem like they needed the rent money ASAP, and I figured it would be beneficial because this way I would not need to cancel the other check. Yet once again, LLS claimed the check was canceled.
LL called today to let me know he finally received the check in the mail. Up until this point, I hadn’t heard from LL at all. However, he said because what he received was a photocopy (despite “this can be used as a viable check” written on it) and he too wanted me to write a new check. Although I explained to him that the photocopy could be used as a regular check, he pushed it off and said if it didn’t go through that it would be put on me. He also said he would come by to collect the fees and claimed I owed another 15% of the check (an extra $195.75 on top of everything else) because it had been over 30 days late, despite the compromises I offered to speed things up. LL claimed this was in the lease, despite both LL and LLS saying the fee total was $35. After looking over the lease, there is no such agreement that I pay the $10 fee from his bank or 15% of the rent if it is not paid within 30 days.
In hindsight there have been more than a couple weird things my LL has pulled such as coming to the house uninvited despite the 24 hour notice written in the lease, adding $30 extra to the rent per month for pet fees last minute, or trying to increase the rent twice while on a fixed rental agreement. Other non-money issues include LL excusing completely unwarranted death threat from SIL to BF as SIL just “having a bad day” or catching one of SIL’s younger sons peaking into my house after watching BF leave, LL claimed he spoke to SIL and my tires were slashed the next day, although I have no proof it was an act of retaliation. There are many more instances but the list would be too long. The easiest answer would be to move out of here as soon as possible but as much as I would like to move out, neither my boyfriend or I can afford to at the moment so that’s not an option.
The back-and-forth and persistence from LLS to “just write another check” while seemingly disregarding the fact that the original check was NOT canceled and ignoring me when I was saying the check would be mailed back to him gave me the feeling that it may have been some kind of scam to eventually cash both checks. I’m wondering if this is a simple misunderstanding on my part, or if there is something I should be worried about. If so, are there any actions I can take to make sure I don’t get taken advantage of in the future? This is the first place I’ve had after moving out from a studio apartment my parents owned so I’m new to dealing with a LL like this.
Here’s the link to text convo between LLS and I and basically a TLDR. It may also clarify the insistent attitude I felt about the whole situation. https://imgur.com/a/izfaWOs

### About the Race
With ~20,000 finishers, the Honolulu Marathon is apparently the 4-th largest marathon in the US. It’s sponsored by Japan Airlines and a significant fraction of the runners (maybe 40%?) are from Japan. One big attraction seems to be the lack of a time limit - they’ll keep the finishing line open until the last person crosses. Because it’s huge, there are so many walkers, and the starting corrals aren’t enforced AT ALL, the first few miles of this race are really really crowded.
Take this quick quiz to find out if Honolulu is the marathon for you!
o I want to set a new PR, and it will only happen if everything goes exactly right. I’ll need it to be nice and cool, and I definitely don’t want to be hurdling over toddlers for the first four miles. If I don’t get my PR, I’ll be sad.
- Honolulu is not for you! You will get very frustrated and hate everybody. You won’t like the weather, either.
o I like intimate local races where everybody knows each other and we have cute nicknames and there are fun local rivalries and stuff.
- Nope! You should go and do a trail run in Vermont where the race director wears a moose hat, or something.
o I love big events! I’d like nothing better than to run with 20,000 of my best friends and have awesome spectators shouting at me in Japanese!!
- You are so Honolulu! Get yourself signed up!
o My grandma has started telling me she wants to run a marathon. I’d love to make her dreams come true but I timed her down the length of the hallway at the care home last week and my calculations say we’ll need about 19 hours to finish.
- Honolulu is your race! They’re serious about this “no time limit” thing - the last-place finisher this year came in at 17 hrs 31 minutes! You could set a new course record! Granny’s got this - sign her up!

### Background & Training
OK. So. Due to some very unpleasant experiences in PE and cross-country at school, I hated running for a long time. I thought there were two kind of people - people who can run, and people who are physically incapable of running. I assumed I was one of the second type. Then, for reasons I still can’t explain, in my early thirties I put on a pair of old shoes, walked out the door, and jogged slowly for 1.5 miles. It didn’t make me lie down and vomit, so I decided to keep doing it.
After about 6 years of very casual running I signed up for my first marathon. I used a very half-arsed version of the Hal Higdon Novice 1 plan, but I ended up getting round in 4:3X with no major mishaps. It felt like someone had been at my ankles with a hammer afterwards, though. I repeated the experience the following year, messed up the nutrition, hit the wall at mile 17, and finished a few minutes slower than the first time.
Last year was better - followed Hal Higdon’s Novice 2 plan quite closely, did 2 marathons, and finished both right around 4:20. This year I got more serious and upped the mileage with Hal Higdon Intermediate 2. I settled on 4:10 as a goal because… 9 minute miles (for sub-4) sounded really fast and I didn’t want to increase mileage and add speedwork in the same training cycle. Now that I'm over 40 I’m OK with improving bit-by-bit and seeing what my body can handle along the way.
The training went really well - no injuries or anything, and by now I’ve learned to exchange thoughts like “it’s wet outside, I’ll skip just this one run” with “I’m a determined runner who sticks to their plan”, and “I hate this stupid hill” with “this stupid hill makes me strong”, etc. I live on the Big Island and do a lot of training in hilly areas and on trails, so I never got a very good feel for constant marathon-pace miles, which made me a bit nervous.
By the end of the taper I was a total hypochondriac, though - I had the flu on the Friday night, was definitely catching a cold on Saturday morning, and had a bad case of runner’s knee in the afternoon. Fortunately all the symptoms had magically vanished when my partner (aka long-suffering support crew) and I got up at 2:45 am to get the bus to the start line before the race.
### Race
Miles 0 - 6
The race starts at 5 am (in the dark) and the first couple of miles are always complete carnage. Nobody pays any attention to the starting corrals, so by the time you get over the line the entire course is rammed with walkers. This time I even (literally) stumbled across a person holding hands with a knee-height child. The best thing this year was that the fireworks didn’t go off until a few minutes into the race, so about 4000 people immediately stopped and began taking videos at that point. At the end of mile 1, I was already almost a minute off pace.
Pro-tip: Don’t even think about trying to stop at the first aid station. Stay to the left and enjoy the view of ‘Iolani Palace instead.

Miles 6 - 13
The course goes up over the base of Diamond Head around miles 7-8. The hill is lined with young people holding a rope to keep you in lane, who say motivational stuff as you go past ("6 down! Only 20 to go!"). Seriously, they’re pretty cool and thanks for getting up at 2 am to help out. This is where you start to get a bit of a view - sky brightening over the Pacific with Maui (?) in the background, that kind of thing. I managed to speed up to about 9:15-9:30, to compensate for the slow beginning. Around mile 10 I started to feel “not-fresh”, but nothing too serious.
Pro-tip: be ready to throw a shaka to the band rocking out in the garage at mile 10-ish. They’ve been here every year I’ve done this race. What’s so special about that, you say? Well, mostly the fact that this is still about 6:30 am…

Miles 13 - 18
I actually maintained pace really well in these few miles. This part of the race is an out-and-back so you get to watch very fast people come past you, which I enjoy a lot.
Pro tip: Stay to the right as you go through Hawai’i Kai. That is where some nice locals have a table with homemade rice balls and musubi :)

Miles 18 - 26.2
This is where it started to get very difficult, but I didn’t slow down too much except for that awful hill over Diamond Head that makes me walk every time. The last mile to the finish was SO HARD and also they have this evil decoy arch that looks like the finish but is actually like 200 m or something before the finish, which is just mean. Anyway, I got to the finish in 4:10:XX with a negative split of a minute or two, so I’m really pleased with how it all went.
Pro tip: I’ve got nothing. I was basically in the pain cave for this entire stretch.

### Post-race
They have showers right after the finishing line and honestly they felt like the best thing ever. Soaked and dripping, I met my partner and grabbed a malasada and a finisher T-shirt. I was feeling pretty grim at this point, headachey and nauseous, but I’d left a bottle of Nuun with my partner and that stuff sorted me out like magic.
After a nap and a late lunch, we headed out again for what has now become our post-race tradition - going back to the finish line to cheer on the ~12-hour finishers. I’m not sure why anyone would want to spend 12 hours walking random city roads, but I am happy to cheer them on anyhow, especially the really old people and the ones who get emotional at the finish. This is my version of when elite runners like Scott Jurek stay and cheer on the rest of us :)
Not sure what I’ll do next. I think that with a bit of speedwork, a more favorable course, and getting the hang of race nutrition, I might have a sub-4 in me. But I’m also tempted by ultras and maybe getting faster at shorter distances. Any ideas?

So I am planning on making a new desktop, but really really don’t wanna mess it up. I am going to be playing regular games such as Minecraft, or maybe factories or stuff like that. As an addition to my request could anyone recommend me a guide or at least tips to creating a desktop, I am very stressed that I might accidentally break a part.
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Playing games like Minecraft with shaders, factorio, maybe GTA V on low to medium settings. Mainly I want a pc that will be able to play “modern” games at a pretty good speed.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$1050
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
In about 5-6 days
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower, OS, and monitor, I already have a razer keyboard mouse and headset.

Today is:

Aviator Amelia Earhart was born on today's date in 1897, in Atchison, Kansas. She championed the advancement of women in aviation and women's rights in general. She set many flying records, such as being the first person ever to fly from Hawaii to the US mainland and being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Although her plane was lost during her attempt to circumnavigate the globe, she left a legacy of inspiration and bravery not only for women but for all those who seek adventure and hope to change the world.
From a young age, Earhart was tomboy: she climbed trees, hunted, played basketball, and took an auto repair class. She also kept a scrapbook of women who had achieved success in male-dominated fields. When in her late teens, as World War I raged, she worked as a nurse's aide in a military hospital in Toronto. It was then when she first got a glimpse of aviation when she watched pilots of the Royal Flying Corps train at a Toronto airfield.
On December 28, 1920, Frank Hawks took Earhart on her first flight. She was immediately hooked, and later said, "By the time I had got two or three hundred feet off the ground, I knew I had to fly." Just days later, on January 3, 1921, she began flying lessons, being taught by Neta Snook. Six months after beginning her lessons, she purchased her first plane, a used Kinner-Airster. "The Canary" was the name she gave to her new bright-yellow two-seater biplane. Later that year, in December, she passed her flight test and received a National Aeronautics Association license. By October of the following year, she had set her first record, using The Canary to rise to an altitude of 14,000 feet, going higher than any other woman had before her.
In 1928, she received a phone call asking if she would like to be the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Although she would not be at the controls of the plane, she still answered with a resounding "Yes!" On June 17, 1928, she accompanied pilot Wilmer "Bill" Stultz and co-pilot and mechanic Louis E. "Slim" Gordon, aboard a Fokker F7 plane named "Friendship." They flew out of Trepassey Harbor, Newfoundland, and arrived in Burry Port, Wales in 20 hours and 40 minutes. Three women pilots had died within the previous year attempting to do what Earhart had done, and the flight crew came back to a ticker tape parade in New York City and were greeted by President Calvin Coolidge at the White House. Earhart published 20 Hours, 40 Minutes that fall, and toured and lectured around the country.
In August 1929, Earhart took third place in a transcontinental air race called the Cleveland Women's Air Derby, which was referred to as the Powder Puff Derby by Will Rogers. Afterward, she helped start the Ninety-Nines, an international organization to help with the advancement of female pilots. She became its first president.
She soon switched from an Avro Avian plane to a Lockheed Vega. In June of 1930, she set multiple speed records. Not only did Earhart set records with planes, but on April 8, 1931, she used a Pitcairn autogyro to set the autogyro altitude record at 18,415 feet, a record that stood for 84 years.
It was also in 1931 that Earhart married George Putnam. She called their marriage a "partnership" in which they had "dual control." Together they planned for her to become the first woman—and only second person, after Charles Lindbergh—to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. On May 20, 1932, five years to the day after Lindbergh began his transatlantic journey, Earhart took flight in her red Lockheed Vega 5B airplane from Grace, Newfoundland, and headed towards Paris. Because of weather conditions, she had to land in a field in Londonderry, Ireland, after flying for 14 hours and 56 minutes. After her flight, President Herbert Hoover gave her a gold medal from the National Geographic Society, and Congress gave her the Distinguished Flying Cross—which had never before been given to a woman. She wrote The Fun of It about her flight.
Over August 24 and 25 of the same year, she became the first woman to fly nonstop coast to coast, from Los Angeles, California, to Newark, New Jersey, in 19 hours and 5 minutes. The following July she made the same flight in 17 hrs and 7 minutes. On January 11, 1935, she became the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the US mainland, flying from Honolulu to Oakland. That same year she also became the first person to fly from Mexico City to Newark.
By 1937, Earhart had a goal be the first woman to fly around the world. After flying from Oakland to Miami, Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, left Miami on June 1, in Earhart's twin-engine Lockheed 1OE Electra plane, beginning what was intended to be a 29,000-mile flight. They flew to South America, to Africa, to India, and then to Southeast Asia. They landed in Lae, New Guinea, on June 29, after having flown 22,000 miles.
On July 2, they headed toward Howland Island, a small island in the mid-Pacific, and had just 7,000 miles left to fly before they would complete their mission. They had radio contact with the United States Coast Guard Cutter ITASCA, which was stationed right by the island. In addition, two other US ships were also markers along the flight route and kept all their lights on. Skies were overcast with intermittent rain showers, which made celestial navigation—Noonan's preferred method—difficult to do. Earhart communicated with ITASCA about the weather, and radio transmissions eventually became faint and interrupted with static. Earhart radioed, "We must be on you, but we cannot see you. Fuel is running low. Been unable to reach you by radio. We are flying at 1,000 feet." She made her last communication with the ship 63 minutes later and was never heard from again.
A rescue attempt was authorized by President Franklin Roosevelt and quickly began. After spending $4 million and search 250,000 square miles of ocean, the US government called off the search on July 19. Earhart and Noonan were declared lost at sea.
There are many theories as to what happened to Earhart, but her fate is still unknown. The official position of the US government is that she crashed into the Pacific Ocean, after running out of gas while searching for Howland Island. Recent expeditions of this area have not turned up any clues. The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) believes Earhart and Noonan went off course and landed 350 miles to the southwest of Howland Island, on Gardner Island, which is now known as Nikumaroro. TIGHAR believes they may have lived there for days or weeks as castaways, before dying. Expeditions have found some artifacts to back up the theory, but nothing has been definitive. Conspiracy theories also abound, such as that they were spies for the Roosevelt administration and gained new identities when they returned to the US, or that they were captured by the Japanese. A photograph surfaced in 2017 that purported to show Earhart, Noonan, and her plane after the flight, but was later debunked.
Amelia Earhart once wrote a letter to her husband, with thoughts on if the flight she was about to take happened to be her last flight. "Please know I am quite aware of the hazards," she said. "I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others." This was the spirit of Amelia Earhart, and why we celebrate Earhart today.

Why did the chicken cross the road?" "To get to the other side!"
National Tell an Old Joke Day is all about keeping traditional humor alive—it is a day to tell old, tried-and-true jokes. The jokes are to be "clean," as many old jokes are. Jokes are a type of short, humorous oral literature. Although they are often written down, they don't need to be told verbatim and can be transferred and passed along orally. That is really what today is all about!
Like they are today, early jokes were written for entertainment and leisure. They weren't designed to be documented, and those that were written down were done so for their immediate use, not for posterity. They then just happened to be passed along. Although National Tell an Old Joke Day is for clean jokes, the earliest jokes weren't necessarily clean. The oldest joke is thought to be a Sumerian proverb from 1900 BCE (maybe from as early as 2300 BCE), which translates to: "Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap." Similarly, the second oldest recorded joke isn't necessarily clean either. Dating to around 1600 BCE in ancient Egypt, it goes as follows: "How do you entertain a bored pharaoh? You sail a boatload of young women dressed only in fishing nets down the Nile and urge the pharaoh to go catch a fish."
The oldest existing joke book is Philogelos (translated to The Laughter-Lover), which dates to the fourth or fifth century CE and contains 265 jokes written in Greek. Many modern jokes are based on jokes in this collection. With the advent of the printing press in the fifteenth century, many joke books began being printed, which were known as jestbooks. One of these was a joke anthology book called Facetiae. Written by Poggio Bracciolini, it appeared in 1470. By at least the nineteenth century, jokes began being used as filler in broadsides and chapbooks. Jokes continue to appear in books, magazines, and online, giving material to anyone who wishes to tell some jokes on National Tell an Old Joke Day.

Today we celebrate tequila, a liquor distilled from the Mexican blue agave plant. A sweet sap from the plant's heart called "aquamiel"—meaning "honey water"—is used to make it. Tequila is actually a mezcal, although not all mezcals are tequila. Any spirit made from an agave plant is a mescal, but in order for it to be considered tequila, it has to come from the blue variation of the plant. The Mexican government allows labeling something as tequila if it has at least 51 percent agave-derived sugar—the rest can be cane or corn sugar. Mexican law says that for a spirit to be considered to be tequila, it also must be manufactured in one of five Mexican states: Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Guanajuato, or Tamaulipas.
Before the arrival of the Spanish in the sixteenth century, the Aztecs were making a drink by fermenting the agave plant. After Mexico was colonized, people that lived in the city of Tequila began making a drink similar to that which the Aztecs had made. Many consider this to be the first tequila, and it was actually quite similar to Mezcal wine. True tequila came about a bit later, and the word was first printed in 1795, when José María Guadalupe Cuervo was given the first commercial license to produce it, from the king of Spain. American troops brought tequila back to the United States after fighting Pancho Villa in 1916. However, sustained popularity of tequila in the US didn't arrive until the 1960s when university students in California began drinking it. Sales began to grow, and it was especially popular for its use in making margaritas.
Tequila ranges in alcohol content, from about 31% (62 Proof) to 55% (110 Proof). There are five classifications of tequila: Blanco, Joven, Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo. In Mexico, tequila is usually sipped, while in the United States it is often taken as a shot, with lime and salt. A "classic" way to drink it, sometimes called the "Mexican itch," consists of taking a straight shot of tequila, along with some crushed worms from the agave plant, which are contained in a salt shaker. San Antonio: City in the Sun (1946) described it by saying, "You gulp the Tequila, sprinkle the mummified condiment on the back of your hand, swallow it, suck on a small piece of lime, and then sit down for awhile to recover your senses." The worm, which is really a caterpillar or a larva, is sometimes placed in bottles of some mezcals. This is a marketing gimmick and not the traditional way that tequila was drank.

Happy Celebrating

2018.09.29 06:02 assessment_bot [ Non-Fatal ] [ 09/18/2018 ] Robinson R44, Honolulu/ HI

On September 18, 2018, about 0915 Hawaiian standard time, a R44 helicopter, N632NV, was substantially damaged during a precautionary landing near Wahiawa, Hawaii. The pilot and two passengers were not injured. The helicopter was registered to and operated by Novictor Aviation under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 air tour flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local flight, and no flight plan was filed. The flight originated from Honolulu International Airport, Honolulu, Hawaii at 0845 and was destined for Weed Airport, Weed, California.
The pilot reported that during cruise flight, at about 2,200 ft above ground level (agl), the engine oil light illuminated red. He immediately lowered the collective and started a precautionary landing. A few seconds after the descent, he noted minor fluctuations in engine RPM; however, the allowable limits were never exceeded. It appeared that shortly after, the RPM stabilized. At about 700-800 ft agl, the engine oversped, and the pilot received a low rotor rpm warning. He continued the descent and impacted terrain with some forward speed. The helicopter slid about 40 ft, the left skid broke off, the helicopter rotated about 90 degrees and the main rotor blade struck the tailboom.

2018.09.26 08:58 OCHNCaPKSNaClMg_Yo Quirk: Heat Manipulation

*School: still unsure. I mean fictional school and all but I'm debating on school in a Honolulu style city or more in small town thing. I'm leaning more to small town thing to paint the contrast between UA and this place. Probably city school but small town characters.
Also Hawaiian chiefs and other high ranking officials would wear a Mahiole, which is a feather helmet that resembles the Spartan helmets so I'm thinking she may do something in reference to that, my favorite being lighting her hair on fire so it resembles a Mohawk almost. And maybe have some red and orange feathers/ wrapping in her hair when she's not in costume. I keep on seeing This when searching for Hawaiian armor and clothing. I'm not sure if it is actually something they wore but I may include it too. It looks quite similar to a boxing helmet so that may be what I go with As well as the flaming hair. But may look too silly.
As well as that there are 'ahu'ula which are feather cloaks usually worn with the Mahiole. While I don't want to make it a full on cloak, maybe a shoulder cloak of a half shoulder cloak. Some styles i found I am liking the two red double shoulder cloaks in the red, orange and yellow feathers. Mainly the bottom one but making it open like the second. Underneath I'm think a brown sports bra type thing.
I will have boots in a similar style to the skirt, and Also in reference to the fire dancers tho not as poofy or having so much movement. Under the straps would be some shin guards. There are him eating elements in the boots and bracers
And speaking of such, she can cool herself off at an accelerated rate because She can push the hot air away faster and allow for cooler air to contact her skin, making the cooling process much faster.
She is not able to produce any heat besides her own residual body heat. only control it.
She is able to slightly increase her bodies speed and reduce another persons. Higher the temp yadda yadda. When she lights herself on fire she can obviously move a bit faster again but it's not by a whole lot. But enough to make a difference.

2018.05.03 21:41 andrewegan1986 [Crit] They Day The Came - Let me know if you think this is worth continuing. I can't tell if it's interesting or if I just have too much fun writing it.

The Day They Came (Manuscript)
By Andrew Egan
Quotes:
“Well, our object collision budget is a million dollars. That allows us to track about three percent of the sky and, begging your pardon sir, but it’s a big ass sky.”
“We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet.”
“Wonder. Go on and wonder.”
Introduction
The day humanity first encountered a species from another planet proved to be seminal. Writers, philosophers, and theologians had long pondered the importance of First Contact. It would be our fate to live it.
From the outset, I had covered the events for various news outlets and publications. As a matter of professionalism, I’ve kept my views and opinions to myself and plan to do so here. I did not encourage the subjects interviewed to do the same.
Books of this nature so close to the tragedies that claimed many of our loved ones might be difficult to bear. But I've done the reporting anyway and there’s more we need to learn. If there’s one personal opinion that filters into these pages, let it be that.
Beginnings
Chapter One
James Villanueva, the head of the chemistry department at Whittier High School in Whittier, California, is disarming at first glance. His kind eyes, receding hairline, and middle age paunch betray his role as gentile school teacher.
Students wave and greet Mr. Villanueva as he shows me around the school. The halls have a hint of the familiar but nothing from my own past.
“This was the high school in ‘Back to the Future’”, Mr. Villanueva explains, as if reading my mind. “I always thought of myself as Marty. Guess I’m Principal Strickland.”
Though comfortable in his role as educator, it is far removed from his time as a test pilot for Groom Lake Aerospace. The cutting edge, private space company was testing its new, reusable low orbit plane, the Icarus, when sudden catastrophic instrumentation and engine failure resulted in the deaths of two crew members. Mr. Villanueva is the sole survivor.
It was a beautiful day. When test planes crash, it’s always a beautiful day.
The flight was going perfectly. Every piece and part on that plane was humming. We hit our target altitude, just over 76 miles. We broke clean of atmo and hit our burners. Clear orbital airspace for three rotations. The whole process took twenty-three minutes and change. Seventy-six up and damn near 76,000 around. They built one hell of a plane.
On our way home, we descended into atmo and the plane shook. Of course it did. We broke the sound barrier for the fourth time that flight. It shook every time before that too.
I’m sorry, the after incident investigators harped on that point a lot. It was a good plane. It just died mid-flight. Apparently, that had nothing to do with us or the design team or the engineers. One second, we were flying one of the most advanced pieces of technology known to man. The next it was a brick.
Mr. Villanueva sighs and slumps his shoulders.
After ten years as a Marine Corps aviator, you know the difference. We trained with the Navy but got their hand-me-downs. The planes we flew into combat…
Mr. Villanueva stops and smirkes.
They were often kept together with a hope and a prayer. Well, and some kick ass mechanics. When you fly under those conditions, you get a sense when something is solid.
He opens the door to a modest office. A large periodic table is posted behind a large grey metal desk. On closer inspection, it’s not an actual periodic table as the elements have been replaced with joke alternatives, like “fakenesium”.
The avionics just blinked out. In an instant, the plane lost all electrical components, which was pretty much everything. The mechanical parts, our altimeter and a few other gauges still worked, as did our hydraulics. At that speed, without a working flight computer, we were pretty fucked pretty quickly. In the half second it took for Henson to react, we already hit a steep dive we couldn't recover from. I’ve gone down before, but not like this. Our altitude when we lost avionics was 36,000 feet. I didn’t think we were going to live. Guess, I was mostly right.
Villanueva laughs nervously.
Situations like that are a little like running in a dream. You know you can do it but the legs just move uselessly. I couldn’t react fast enough to the alarms and warnings. Every button or switch I did reach for jostled out of position. Our radio operator and navigator, Andy, was shouting into his mouthpiece. Or I assume he was. All I could hear was loud banging and my own breathing.
Henson must have initiated the ejection sequence because I didn’t do a damn thing right. The ejection system on the Icarus, which now that I think about it is a terrible name for a plane, was similar to the one on the F18. Minimal electronics and redundancies in case those failed. The system ejected me clear and that’s when I passed out. I came to with my chute deployed and some 9,000 feet beneath me. I didn’t see the other chutes or the wreckage. A long column of smoke rose from the horizon, arching across the sky and dissipated in the upper atmosphere.
When were you first told the truth about the incident?
Not until much later. It was maybe two years after Day One, just before I was recalled to the Corps.
How did you react?
I was surprised but probably less than if I had been told before Day One.
Do you know when they determined the plane had been downed by ETs?
Not exactly but I heard it, as a rumor through a friend of brother’s cousin kind of thing, I heard it was a couple of months after those scientists went to NSA.
Don’t you mean NASA?
No, I mean the National Security Agency. As far as I know, they were the first with the knowledge, with some guidance from a couple scientists that had a hunch.
Guess I need to get some facts straight?
There’s still a lot to answer. Who died, when and how. I doubt there’s a person on earth who doesn’t have those questions about someone.
For my part, though, it’s an interesting, well I wouldn’t say honor, but it’s my little piece of history. I kind of thought something like that was supposed to be spectacular. I didn’t see little green men or a brilliant light. I lost two friends and didn’t know why for a few years. That’s all that really happened.
Chapter Two
The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence or SETI Institute is located outside Mountain View, California, within quick reach of the wealthy tech elite that supports their mission. Since the cessation of global hostilities, the organization has been expanding as grants and donations flood into the Institute.
Dr. Malik Hussain takes pride in the new facility. As director for the past eleven years, he has overseen the Institute’s explosive growth. But as a postdoctoral research assistant, he made the discovery of a lifetime. With the help, he admits, of a good friend and a bottle of whiskey.
I had defended my thesis at MIT two years before I got to SETI. Applications of Quantum Lensing for Identifying Dark Matter Objects.
He shakes his head and laughs.
Wish I could say it helped. But we found it on accident. My friend, Dr. Ben Huang, was visiting the Bay area after some time working with the Hubble. He had a full day of interviews at trendy restaurants and exclusive hotels. His work on efficient orbital mathematics was making him a hot ticket among the tech companies. I think he felt strange about it since he helped with my SETI research whenever he could. He didn’t have to do that.
The night he stopped by, September 9th, 2017, was pretty boring, even by SETI standards. Nothing important was coming in. Ben brought a bottle of Jack and we started talking about our research.
He gazes off into a corner.
Did you ever have a moment with a friend that thought a lot like you did? Another person that comes to you with a problem you also encountered? We were both astronomers. We just didn’t do the same thing. He was a physicist and mathematician. I liked computers and chemistry. But we both looked to the sky.
Ben had been playing around with images that Hubble had pulled over, gesh, maybe 15 years. It was a side project he worked on while the info from his actual research compiled. He had a theory that there was an unknown, dark object in our solar system.
Something that was missed by the existing SpaceGuard systems?
Dr. Hussein explodes in laughter.
The SpaceGuard systems before Day One were lacking, to the say the least. There was, maybe, 25 percent coverage of the fourth dimensional space at a radius of 46 million miles.
Fourth dimensional?
Time. Not all near earth objects are near earth all the time. They come into and out of our general vicinity pretty regularly. Only a few stay within that radius permanently and they’re nothing too dangerous.
Ben figured there was another asteroid out there but wasn’t exactly sure. He had a few blinks from Hubble. A few stars that seemed out of place. Not physically but their flux was different. At MIT, Ben worked on an algorithm that tracked the flux and brightness of stars. Those little flickers of light from a star tell us everything. Chemical composition, age, distance, likelihood of life supporting planets; all we need is a little light to make the universe shine.
Dr. Hussein pauses and struggles to take a breath. He removes his Buddy Holly style eye glasses and wipes the moisture from his eyes. Despite his best efforts, a thin line still catches light from corner of his eye.
I’m sorry. That probably sounds insincere coming from me. It was something Ben used to say about astronomy. He could have done anything. He was… simply brilliant. Whenever we worked on a project, the code he offered was always annoyingly efficient. I’d code something in a hundred lines. He’d do it in sixty-five.
Ben looked at problems in different ways. Not just differently, which he also did. His solutions were often practical and they lead him to HELIOS.
The programing behind the updated SpaceGuard?
Yes. Just no one knew it at the time. When he showed it to me at SETI that night, we were a couple of drinks in and it was a joke. He had pulled thousands of images from the Hubble and set his algorithm to work. Basically, it analyzed well documented stars for changes in flux. His early efforts didn’t yield much but he kept tinkering.
We had discussed the project a little, by the time I was actually seeing it in action, HELIOS was impressive. It was collecting more precise data from existing images than a hundred grad students could perform in a hundred years. Even with the unbelievable amount of data he was collecting, maybe because of it, Ben almost missed it.
Three stars that should have been shining brighter than they were. Their lux were barely diminished. Not enough to account for an obstruction between the source and the telescope. These were stars that had been studied for exoplanets and were believed to not have any. Ben thought this was evidence of on object in near earth orbit or just outside the existing SpaceGuard radius. In our night sky, they were fairly close but cosmologically they weren’t close together. There was no obvious reason why all three should dim by roughly the same amount. An unknown object somewhat close to earth was one reasonable answer. It was also the easiest to test.
One of the few positives about early private space development was the guilt the newly wealthy executives had about the old institutions, including SETI. Stephanie Thanopoulos, the founder of Groom Lake Aero, donated a 5.68 gW laser to SETI. This thing could measure distances across tens of millions of kilometers within a centimeter. It could even give us basics on chemical composition. We didn’t have an immediate use for the thing but it quickly become a revenue generator for us. Research teams would send us coordinates to shoot at and we’d charge a pretty reasonable fee, especially for anything within the SpaceGuard radius.
When Ben came to me that night, he wasn’t asking for my help on his project. He wanted to use the cannon. I thought it was funny. Ben was always rooted in reality but this seemed too fantastic. I obliged anyway because l, well, nevermind…
What was your reaction to the results?
The delayed response surprised us. To impact the flux of those three stars, Ben calculated the object to be approximately 125 km across, assuming it was at the outer limit of the SpaceGuard radius. That’s big but not large compared to other asteroids. When the results finally beamed back, we were confused. Our data was saying this thing, which Ben had just proved existed, was 575 million kilometers away. That put it near Jupiter. This also meant the object was much, much bigger than Ben thought.
Who did you think to call first?
I suggested Jack Sangre at NASA or Robert Choi at JPL. But Ben rejected both. Instead, he want to take it to another classmate of ours that ended up at the National Security Agency.
In hindsight, it was probably the right call. I just wish the timing would have been better. We could have used him later. Ben may not have survived the war but any extra time we could have had with him would have been invaluable. He really was a gift.
Chapter Three
Mr. Joshua Pierce was waiting in his paper plied office. No corner or empty space was free of a stack of classified papers.
“This ruling caught us by surprise,” Mr Pierce said. “I knew I’d have to answer questions, I just assumed it’d be in front of a Congressional inquiry.”
He gestured around the room and offered me a seat covered with a stack of papers. He quickly mobilized to help move the stack.
“I’d appreciate if you don’t look at those,” Pierce chuckled. “The counterintel people will have their way with me.”
In his mid-sixties with salt and pepper hair that shakes while he laughs but manages to stay in professional form, Mr. Pierce, the current National Security Advisor to the President, has lived most of his adult life with a top secret security clearance. While he can’t remember the exact date he became aware of EM-19470514, he’s certain that he was forty-two years old.
No one was more surprised than I was when it happened. At that point in my career, at that point in my life, the idea seemed completely ludicrous. But there it was… (he trails off)
When we… When we…
(sighs)
That’s not what you’re asking for. Forgive me, I’ve spent a life telling half truths and whole lies with no one to tell the difference.
He looks to the wall behind me and smiles while shaking his head.
And now you’re legally allowed to know what we did when it happened. The greatest bullshit we could have created to protect our greatest secret.
EM-19470514 is the designation for the senior level memo on the events at Roswell in 1947. At any given moment, maybe 14 or 15 people in the U.S. government, including military, were aware of its contents. Which is a damn shame because it is a masterpiece.
For those who want to believe, this memo was the worst news possible. To any other nation on Earth, it was damning evidence. The United States never had contact with aliens or ETs or whatever you want to call them. What crashed at Roswell was, in fact, a weather balloon. Of course, this wasn’t just any weather balloon. It was one that could gauge atmospheric readings on our tests AND, AND the Soviets’ developing technology. That stupid fucking balloon was an overreach. An attempt by some penny-pinching USAF brass to get the most bang for their buck.
Mr. Pierce shakes his head again and laughs with his whole body.
You never understand what you buy. Know what I mean? This jackass managed to buy the space race.
“I’m sorry sir, I don’t know what you mean,” I stutter. Mr. Pierce sighs again and shoots me a disappointing look. He takes a long sip from a glass on his desk that I hadn’t noticed before.
It was a weather balloon. It was 1947, only two years after we used the originals at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those nukes were Molotov cocktails compared to what we have nowadays. We got there with development and testing. We were testing in New Mexico and Arizona and Utah and Nevada and… oh, lord, most of those states.
Can you imagine what a weather balloon packed with advanced sensors would have looked like to people in rural New Mexico in the damn 1940s? It looked like something out of H.G. Wells or something heard from Orson.
With all that’s happened, I can forgive that. People tell stories and that’s how myths are created and that’s what my predecessors counted on. To protect the greatest secrets of our nation, they let people believe what they were inclined to believe anyway. The public wanted to believe it was aliens, so when we told the truth, that it was actually a weather balloon, no one wanted to believe it.
EM-1947, the “ET memo” was an attempt by the newly created CIA to keep some semblance of control over the situation. Deception of others is what we do. We can’t afford to deceive ourselves. However, this was forgotten pretty quickly. Agents and officers from every branch and alphabet agency has legitimately investigated UFOs at one time or another. These assignments were usually punitive or busy work for some connected shit heel that wormed their way into a job they didn’t deserve.
“Couldn’t assignments of that nature be considered a waste of resources?”
Sure, if anyone knew about them. Standard procedure was to deny everything. But I wouldn’t consider it a waste. The number of UFO reports to the government, usually to USAF with follow up investigation by FBI, exploded after 1947. Most of these were, obviously, bogus but well intentioned. Some actually lead to useful information.
“Of extraterrestrials?” I asked, surprised.
No, no!
The National Security Advisor laughs with his whole body.
After 1947, we had thousands of people keeping their eyes on the sky. We were spending billions developing our national radar system but until satellites came along, there were gaps. In those early years, a few reported UFOs, maybe 1 in every 1000, were actually foreign aircraft illegally entering US airspace. So it was useful in that regard but…
“Did you have your own misgivings about the deception?”
No, why would I? I really didn’t think much of it. When I finally found out about the memo, I had been transferred back to CIA after a few years as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and was briefed on it by someone at my level from another department. As far as briefings go, it was one of the more lighthearted. Lots of jokes but it was easy to see the value. Just as a gauge of perceived American power, Roswell was useful. Our role as a superpower is so complete and unquestioned that for more than 70 years millions, maybe billions, of people assumed we had proof of aliens and their technology.
Mr. Pierce laughs weakly and breaks eye contact for a moment.
The there was a study from CIA PsyOps in the early 90s that Roswell lead to an explosion of interest in space. By their estimation, we might not have landed on the moon without it. Then there’s the benefit to culture, the countless movies and books based on extraterrestrials. Look, I know on Day One, we were completely unprepared because nothing like it had never happened before. At least Roswell, or the cover up, got us to think about it. I mean, really, what more could we have done?
Chapter Four
The Director of the National Security Agency had secured a conference room at their headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland. Despite recent expansion of U.S. federal law that granted access to credentialed journalists, NSA was allowed a number exceptions. Director Sean Fleming was legally required to keep the appointment but was making it clear he didn’t have to reveal everything.
A former Naval intelligence officer with a doctorate in physics from MIT, Director Fleming was classmates with Malick Hussein and Ben Huang. When the latter contacted Fleming, it was through encrypted email. The content of the message was written in a book cipher they used in school, based on an obscure Warhammer module.
Though dressed in a black civilian suit, it has the impression of a uniform. He takes a seat directly opposite of me in the conference room. We are in a special area of NSA, newly created for approved journalists in response to the updated Freedom of Information Act. Apparently, I'm the first approved journalist to use the space.
We sit in silence for a few moments before Director Fleming presses an intercom and asks for two cups of coffee. I tell him that I don't need anything; the director remains stoic and silent.
A uniformed Navy lieutenant brings in two mugs with assorted sugars and some cream.
“Please don't take the mug when you leave,” the lieutenant pleads before leaving. The room is quiet, removed from the frantic activity that dominates life at America’s most secret agency.
“Do you know why I'm here?” I asked after a few unbearable moments of silence.
Yes.
Do you have anything you'd like to say before I ask anything specific?
No.
This might go a lot easier if you fill in some blanks. I'd prefer to make best use of your time.
I take any meeting I'm required to and only answer what I'm ask.
“I probably should have assumed that beforehand.” For the first time, the Director smiles. “Okay, when were you first told about the Roswell memo?” His smile fades.
As assistant secretary of defense, this would have been five or six years before Day One.
“Were you aware of the existence of extraterrestrials prior to Day One?”
No.
No?
No.
Weren't you the first government official contacted by Dr. Huang about his discovery?
No, Dr. Huang was the first. But yes many were aware of an object with peculiar movements. Space is a big place filled with interesting things. This was just another.
Then why contact someone, who he knew personally, at the NSA rather than NASA?
You'd have to ask Ben that.
You know I can't.
Then I'm afraid no one can answer that question.
You didn't follow up on his report?
I did some checking with various national and international space agencies. A few had detected the anomaly but there was no consensus about what it was.
“Did Dr. Huang share his opinion?”
Yes, but I didn't think much of his theory.
“Even though he was right?” I ask. The Director frowns.
By the time Ben approached me, I had high level access to the nation's secrets. There were far more significant threats than aliens.
“But you still looked into his theory?”
The Director shrugs.
Ben was one of the smartest guys I’ve ever met, if he believed in something and had evidence, it was worth checking out.
Did you offer an explanation other than extraterrestrials?
No. We couldn't find a reasonable consensus on what it was so we didn't take anything off the table.
When was the President made aware of your report?
Not until after Day One, when we knew what we were dealing with.
Chapter Five
The office of NASA’s Flight Director is surrounding by several dozen, very impressive computers. Mark Purnell has overseen every NASA flight for the past twenty years. A former Naval aviator himself, he speaks with a calming pilot's voice that almost never seems change volume or cadence.
“We’re imitating Chuck Yeager,” he explains when I mention it. “Most keep it to the cockpit and tower but I spend a lot of time on radio so it was just easier to go with it full time.”
He offers me a seat in his immaculate office. His assistant comes in with a fresh cup of coffee in a NASA mug.
“You can keep it when we’re done,” he offers politely. It's tempting, but I decline.
The space program was not ready for it. Billions of taxpayer dollars spent for marginal missions left too many Americans with a bad taste in their mouth about space. We didn’t get jetpacks or vacations on the moon. More than a decade into the 21st century, Mars was still a dream. Before Day One, a human was more likely to win the lottery than go to space. Far more likely.
At some point, the decision was made to focus on private development. This was a critical decision that, in hindsight, left us wide open. Private space flight was concentrated on low orbit, where commercial satellites could be profitable. NASA was supposed to focus its budget on deep space missions. That didn’t happen.
The increased capacity of the private sector to handle our launch needs meant fewer politicians that saw a need for NASA. If it hadn’t been for some lucky samples from Mars, our research and probe budget would have likely been eviscerated. And people forget that. We found the first evidence of extraterrestrial life five years before Day One. But it was just fossilized bacteria, not enough to spark modern imagination.
We did start focusing on more advanced research. Defense even stepped up on some spending, especially for the EM drive. Which ultimately proved useful, just not for the reasons we intended.
The U.S. military helped fund the E.M.?
Yes, with assistance from a few other countries. Even the Russians contributed through backdoor channels. The asylum granted to Dr. Petroich being the most noteable.
They just let him go?
They didn’t have much use for him. He is, or was rather, a dreamer with little interest in practical applications. Petroich flees, gets granted asylum and NASA/USAF/DARPA research jumps forward 15 years. The Russians get unofficial kudos from us and save face at the same time. I really have to give Pierce credit for that one.
Do you think his interest in Petroich had to do with ETs?
No. None of us thought that. At this point, Day One was still a couple of years away. With Petroich, our tech advanced and didn’t cost anyone anything. It was good politics, even those of us in the know at NASA understood that and we’re not much for politics.
So in the years leading up to Day One, NASA along with the rest of the U.S. government, wasn’t even considering the existence of technologically capable extraterrestrial life?
No.
When did the conversation first start?
When they showed up.
Chapter XXXX
Priscilla Walter's is not yet ready for our appointment. Bent over a bank of holographic projections, she guides representations of planes to their approach with the aid of advanced AI. She's the only air traffic controller working the last shift at Los Angeles International Airport, once the second busiest airport in America. In between commands, Walter tells me her shift ends in ten minutes.
It was a beautiful day for flying, at least in LA. ATC towers were a lot different before Day One. Back then, we would have as many as thirty or forty people working any given shift. Some of the bigger airports, like Minneapolis, still have a decent number of controllers but the tech has reduced the need for us.
I had started my shift at 8:30 in the morning. Things went were pretty normal for the first couple of hours. When it started happening, I was guiding a 777 from Honolulu in for a landing. They were on the approach when the avionics went out on the plane. Everything was gone in a flash. I tried to remain calm and continue contact but there was no response. Our radar and comms were operational, but nothing from them.
I was so concentrated on this one plane, I didn't notice the panic sweeping through the room. Every ATC had broken from their practiced professional tones and were now desperately trying to key any plane still in the sky. My plane landed, the mechanical redundancies were still operational and guided them to the runway. But just glancing at our radar screen was horrifying. Aircraft was falling from the sky. At LAX alone, we lost 93 percent. Some were able to glide safely to a landing site. Most weren't that lucky.

Linda becomes eigthth named storm of 2017-2018 season

During the late evening hours on Monday, an area of disturbed weather to the south of the Solomon Islands rapidly developed into a tropical cyclone. The cyclone was first designated as such by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and as such did not have a name assigned to it. It was not until later in the day that the Australia Bureau of Meteorology also began issuing advisories for the cyclone, designating it Tropical Cyclone Linda, the eigthth named cyclone of the 2017-2018 Australia region tropical cyclone season.

Linda expected to remain weak

Tropical Cyclone Linda is rather weak at the moment and significant development is not likely as it continues toward the southwest through the Coral Sea over the next day or so. The cyclone's southwestward track around a mid-level ridge to the east is pushing it into an area of increasing vertical wind shear associated with an upper-level trough over eastern Australia. Interaction with this trough will prevent any significant development and will help the cyclone undergo extratropical transition by Wednesday.

No direct impact expected, but surf concerns remain

While Tropical Cyclone Linda is expected to remain offshore, it is expected to generate large waves and dangerous surf conditions along the exposed beaches of southern Queensland over the next few days. These enhanced wave conditions are expected to coincide with high tide on Thursday, making surf conditions particularly dangerous.

2018.03.08 18:14 A_biscuit Canadian who got an excessive speeding citation in Hawaii (Big Island).

I recently Vacationed in Hawaii with my girlfriend and was radard doing 90 miles in a 60 zone. I had just passed a car and was going down hill. The penalty for excessive speeding in Hawaii is severe and will leave me with a criminal record along with, community service, Licence Suspension, and a hefty fine.
The court told me I could request a waiver of physical presence, and plead no contest or guilty. I have talked to one Lawyer in Honolulu and was told these are tough cases to win now and I could budget $3500 USD for legal expenses and travel fees. The only Law firm in the town my court date is in wont talk to me for less then $200 and a $2000 retainer.
My questions are:

2017.07.31 00:24 Nordic_Nonsense Ham on a Plane

Good morning, FPS! I'm a lurker and a first time poster so thanks to this awesome subreddit, I finally am able to post my story. So, without further ado, let's get to it.
Cast:
Nordic: 5'6", 150 pounds. Not small, not massive, pretty average sized active duty Coast Guardsman.
Ham on a Plane (HOAP): mid 30's, 5'2" upwards of 350 lbs. of pure "kundishuns".
Flight Attendant: Hunky (but flamboyantly gay) airline worker. 6'3" and average.
Twig Husband: 6' 160?
Scene: I live and serve outside the continental United States. I've been home only once and that was for Christmas last year after being on an island for about six months. My way back to the States went off without a hitch and I actually got to spend a 12 hour layover in Japan. The way going back to my little island is a lot worse than going to my home state because it's over the international date line. Anyways, I'm in the Honolulu airport, getting ready to board my flight. I'm pretty excited to be going home, especially because I just bought a bottle of scotch for my then boyfriend for Christmas and I can't wait to see him open it.
"Flight something something now boarding" Flight Attendant crooned into the microphone. I stood up, planning on boarding the plane first with my active duty military status. I'm tired and smell like I've been traveling all day, which I had been since 4 am and I'm looking forward to being in my own space again. That's when I'm nearly plowed over by a massive ham sandwich in a floral muumuu. She practically races (if you can call waddling at the speed of sound racing). I catch wind of her horrific cheap perfume and sun screen rolls and wrinkle my nose, noticing that she has a tiny stick for a husband in tow behind her. If I hadn't just about been run over, I would have found it amusing.
I watched as she approaches the front gate and stares directly into Flight Attendant's eyes. "I have a heart kundishun." She says lamely, "I need to board the plane first."
He looked at her with as much horrified pity as he can muster, "oh no sweetie," he said, "we only allow people in wheelchairs, families with small children and active duty military board first. You're gonna have to go sit down."
I shit you not, redditors, this woman's triple chins started wobbling and her eyes began to fill up with crocodile tears, "I boarded the plane in San Francisco first!" She whined like a child who wasn't allowed more candy, "I need to get on with my heart!"
"Listen, if you have a heart condition, why are you on a Plane in the first place?" Flight Attendant asks tiredly, obviously getting sick and tired of her shenanigans. I'm watching the scene unfold, CAC card in hand, ready to take my place on an empty plane.
She opens her mouth in shock like an angry fish waiting to swallow him whole but finally steps out of the way, allowing me to breeze past her with my boarding pass and ID. I feel her meaty paw on my arm before I'm even at the front counter. "Honey, you can't board yet. You have to wait in line." Her saturated sweet words are dripping with poison as I turn around and come face to face with soon to be Ham On a Plane.
"I'm active duty military. I'm allowed to board." I said smoothly, flashing her a toothy grin. Her husband finally speaks for the first time and through his muffled voice, kept silent by rolls of fat, I hear, 'thank you for your service.'
"Thank you for your support." I replied, turning on my heel and walking up to the front desk. Flight Attendant gives me a warm smile and repeats the same thing that Twig Husband just said. I can feel Ham's eyes on the back of my neck as I take my long walk down the breezeway and settle into my rather uncomfortable seat, ready to fly home. I didn't see Ham on a Plane until the flight was almost full and she nearly took out four people with her fat rolls.
Tl;dr, I was faced with a Ham on a Plane trying to board the flight early because of her fatness. She tried to call me out because I could board early because military. Twig Husband thanks me for my service.
EDIT sorry if formatting's off! I'm on mobile.
