2020.09.17 19:27 TheMadderRed 3080 Gaming Build ($1700-$1900)

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
*mostly gaming. PvP stuff like Valorant, rainbow six siege, Dead By Daylight, DeepRock and then some of the single player stuff that’s coming out like watchdogs and cyberpunk.
I don’t think I’ll stream but I’d like to be able to capture clips from my POV for my friends that do.
Also online Grad school but that’s just watching videos and typing papers.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
*California but needs to be online. I live on a military base in the middle of nowhere in between LA and Vegas and we haven’t been able to leave for awhile. I haven’t had shipping issues with amazon or Newegg.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

2020.09.17 18:52 flyinmacaronimonster Absentee and In-Person Voting in La Crosse

Hey people of La Crosse!
Election Season officially begins for you as absentee ballots start going out to all registered voters that have requested a ballot, starting today.
Before I go any further, if there is one key piece of advice for you if you are voting absentee, it's that you DO NOT MAIL BACK YOUR BALLOT, and instead drop it off. There is a genuinely good reason for this, and I will explain further down below.
If you have not registered to vote yet, please do so right now. You can do so using this link:
Wednesday, October 14 is the deadline to register to vote online and by mail. For City of La Crosse voters, THE CITY HALL WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. According to the city clerk's website: "Election related documents including voter registration forms, absentee ballot requests or voted absentee ballots may be deposited in the GREEN drop box on the north side of City Hall." (@ 400 La Crosse St in Downtown La Crosse.) It is unclear when city hall will be open to the public again. If you want to confirm availability over the course of the next month, contact the city clerk's office. If you live outside of the City of LaCrosse, check the link below, or contact your municipal clerk's office for hours. [FOR THE CITY OF LA CROSSE] [FOR LA CROSSE COUNTY]
Wisconsin is also one of a few states that also allows for same-day voter registration on Election Day, so, if you have forgotten to register to vote by Friday, October 30, you can still register to vote at your polling place on Election Day, and then subsequently vote in-person.
IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT MACHINE HACKING, KEEP IN MIND THAT WISCONSIN DOES NOT USE VOTING MACHINES IN THEIR ELECTIONS AS OF 2020, EXCEPT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, AND ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT THESE MACHINES WILL HAVE A PAPER TRAIL. In La Crosse County, ballot marking devices (a bit different than a voting "machine") will be used by people with disabilities, but for the majority of voters (i.e. ones without a disability), hand-marked paper ballots will be used.
If you are voting in-person or are a first-time absentee voter, or, if you are requesting an absentee ballot and have updated your name or address, you will need to provide a photo ID with your absentee ballot request. The reason why you need to show ID with an absentee ballot request if you have had a name or address change is because you essentially need to re-register, and every time you register or re-register to vote, you will need to provide a photo ID with your absentee ballot request.
In terms of Photo ID in general, Wisconsin has a very strict photo ID law. Most photo IDs (like a driver's license) need to be up to date as of November 6, 2018. If you need to update your driver's license or other photo ID, please do so now or as soon as possible. Some photo IDs must be unexpired, but most do not need to be.
Here's a site that explains the types of voter ID that are acceptable:
If you have registered to vote and have not requested an absentee ballot, request an absentee ballot if you would like. Again, remember: if you have never requested an absentee ballot in Wisconsin, or, if you have updated your name or address, you will need a photo ID to accompany your absentee ballot request.
Once you have requested and have received your absentee ballot, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, fill out your ballot, and then MAKE SURE TO SIGN YOUR NAME IN THE CORRECT PLACE. As well, YOU WILL NEED 1 SIGNATURE WITNESS to sign the envelope. A witness can be anybody over 18 who is not running for public office.
If you are worried about your ballot being rejected due to a mismatched signature, do not worry as they will not reject it outright without letting you know, and without giving you a chance to fix it, HOWEVER this process needs to be done before polls close (8:00pm CT) on Election Day. Because of this, please make sure to avoid dropping off your ballot on Election Day if possible, and instead drop it off earlier, and preferably as early as possible.
Once you have done all that DO NOT MAIL BACK YOUR BALLOT. The real reason why is because Wisconsin makes it incredibly easy to return your absentee ballot. Wisconsin, like Michigan, administers their elections New England-style. In other words, each municipality is basically in charge of administering the election.
So, your MUNICIPAL (NOT county) clerk will be the ones sending out ballots, and your MUNICIPAL (NOT county) clerk's office will be the ones that your ballot will ultimately need to be returned to. This makes it easier to drop off your ballot, as you will not need to go far to drop it off.
When sending back your ballot, it is important to note that you need to drop it off in the MUNICIPALITY that you are voting in, NOT in the county. For example, if you live in the City of La Crosse, you will need to drop it off within the city limits of La Crosse, and not anywhere else in La Crosse County.
In terms of dropping off your absentee ballot, there are 4 ways to do so:
1) Drop it off at a drop-box in your municipality
I have been doing research on the extent to which ballot drop-boxes exist in Wisconsin. I have found that, in nearly all cities, villages, and towns there is at least 1 drop-box in any given municipality. In the City of La Crosse, there will be 1 drop-box at City Hall (@ 400 La Crosse St in Downtown La Crosse) If you live outside of La Crosse city limits, drop boxes will likely be available in almost all municipalities. Check the link below for future updates or contact your municipal clerk for more details.
2) Hand-deliver it in-person to your municipal clerk's office.
LA CROSSE CITY HALL IS CLOSED, SO, AS FAR AS WHAT IS KNOWN, THIS OPTION REMAINS UNAVAILABLE FOR THE TIME BEING. It is unclear when city hall will re-open. If you live outside of the City of La Crosse, contact your municipal clerk's office for hours . Please be safe when returning it in-person to your municipal clerk's office.
3) Return to a polling site during the Early Voting period.
Early Voting in the City of La Crosse is open weekdays between Tuesday, October 20 and Friday, October 30. Early voting is scheduled to place at City Hall (@ 400 La Crosse St in Downtown La Crosse) between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm. If you live outside of the City of La Crosse, check out the link below or contact your municipal clerk's office for more details.
4) Return to a polling site on Election Day.
This is also an option for dropping off your ballot, however it is more recommended that you drop it off earlier. Still, it is an option if need be. [FOR THE CITY OF LA CROSSE] [FOR LA CROSSE COUNTY]
Generally speaking, you, and only you, should drop off your own ballot, however, if you cannot drop it off yourself, you can have somebody else that you trust drop it off for you. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR BALLOT TO ANYBODY WHO YOU DO NOT FULLY TRUST.
Ballots need to be returned by 8:00pm CT on Election Day.
For several reasons, including the fact that ballot drop-off is local, the fact that there is a drop-box or drop-off point in virtually every municipality, and also because there there are so many options for dropping off your ballot, Wisconsin is, in my opinion, one of the very easiest states to drop off your ballot, and is even up there with Oregon and Washington in terms of ease of dropping it off.
If you want to vote in-person, it is recommended that you vote as early as possible.
You may also vote in-person on Election Day, though it is recommended that you vote early if you are voting in person. Again, make sure you have your valid photo ID. [FOR THE CITY OF LA CROSSE] [FOR LA CROSSE COUNTY]
Stay safe, vote, and please remember to drop off your absentee ballots and not mail it back unless completely and utterly necessary.

Gizelle Bryant: "What happened with Candiace and Monique was just shocking and unnecessary," Gizelle Bryant told E! News exclusively before echoing what she said in the RHOP season five trailer about the racism the cast faces as Black women. "The stereotype in this country is that Black women are aggressive. That we're violent. That we don't know how to have conversations without there being some sort of violence. We are viewed as less than. We are viewed as borderline animals," Gizelle explained. "So, if we are on a national platform as Black women, clearly, we don't want to show white America that we are what they think we are, which are women that cannot use their brains and use their words to get through a difficult situation."
Robyn Dixon: "This altercation, whatever you want to call it, was so shocking and surprising, and unnecessary. It was unfortunate. I mean, it just really shook us all because we weren't expecting something like this. If it was a case where you felt like the tensions were so high that two people couldn't be in a room together without getting physical then we wouldn't have been in the room together, you know? We wouldn't have had those two in the room together. So in our minds there was nothing that really made it OK for that to happen. So it definitely rocked us and shook us to our core big time. It changed the dynamic greatly in the group, because there were so many emotions. We were disappointed. We were shocked. We were hurt. And then you just have the fallout from it, it was a tough time to get through as a group, and it totally wasn't necessary."
Wendy Osefo: "I wish that that incident never happened. If I had a magic wand I would completely remove it. I think it's something that impacted all of us deeply as a cast and i just wish that they were able to handle it differently."
Ashley Darby: "I was shocked that it got to that point only because of where we were at the time. As you'll see, things had transpired but I didn't necessarily anticipate that they would come to a head as fast as they did. So it was a bit surprising, but if there's one thing I know it's that both of them are very spirited and they can tend to say things that are really heated and when you put two people like that together, you never know what you're going to get in an altercation."
Karen Huger: "Lemme put it this way: two wrongs never make a right. That altercation was a powerful moment, it had repercussions on all of the ladies. But what I believe about us and I think the viewers will agree is that we're able to work through it because we have authentic friendships and relationships that are strong enough, I believe, to carry us through." Karen added, "Again, we don't do altercations, we use our words and I'm confident that we can get back to using our words after this season. You'll see a lot of work going on."
As for whether they think Monique and Candiace might one day reconcile, Robyn says it will all come down to the upcoming RHOP season five reunion taping. "I've been at a place before on season three with Ashley. She really was just attacking my family and my life, and I was like, I never want to be around her. I was livid and adamant that I would never have anything to do with her. And then it was two weeks later and I'm in the same room with her, and we're having a pow wow," Robyn said. "So, things can be worked out, but this situation here is like so much deeper, it's gotten really nasty. I think we're going to have to see what these ladies will talk about at the reunion, and if people take accountability for their actions, if they have any type of remorse or if it's going to be a whole lot of finger pointing. That's going to be the telltale sign of whether we can get through it, if people can actually own their actions, and have some sort of remorse for them, because that's the only way you get through it. Otherwise it's like if you can't own your actions, then how do we know this isn't going to happen again. Like we really don't want this to ever happen again. But if you can accept responsibility for your actions. Then, we're not sure that this would never happen again. You know it's going to take a good reunion to sort through all of it, and it's not that a reunion can fix it all but at least show us that we're making progress. It won't be easy."

2020.09.17 04:01 DarkWolfen21 Conker's Bad Fur Day (64) vs. Conker Live and Reloaded (XBOX) - Why both are great games

I have been a fan of the Conker series for several years, and I always like to discuss that with others. I have a lot I enjoy about the 64 original and its remake, and I feel both are worth playing. In this post, I wanted to do a little review of one experience and how it differs from the other in most aspects. There are many differences between the two, but I would still like to focus on a large number of them.

Bad Fur Day

Conker's Bad Fur Day is certainly great for its time, and I view it as one of the best-looking Nintendo 64 titles to this day. It has a story in some cartoon-inspired reality that started off mysteriously from the beginning towards its end. It included a pack of characters that had a different impact in each new situation presented to Conker. Some moments ranged from helping other characters with problems, urinating on others Conker came across, or shooting the brains out of some undead zombie horde. Conker just went from one situation to the next to demonstrate a variety of strange but entertaining experiences, and lot of it was full of context-sensitive gameplay. Just press B and every problem can be solved. It was all quite exciting! Moreover, the game supports detail in a variety of facial animations and Conker is even shown with rendered fingers. There is an explosive gore mechanic. Everywhere, the gore varied with differences in being able to see certain body parts and organs flying in different directions and chunks of a head getting shot off. I thought these were technical achievements back on the N64's platform. It was all quite impressive and some gory moments reminded me of splattering bug goo over cave walls in Jet Force Gemini.
Cutscenes would play some of the most-craziest but funniest mature humor to be found in a video game, which can be subjective, but it does vary from one moment to another, especially when it comes to rude noises and exploding bodies. All scenes have voices on the 64 and while some scenes censored the use of certain swear words (probably for some humor purpose), the game was mostly uncensored in the language department. The music was quite enjoyable and every environment contains a tune that was fitting to where Conker explored. Furthermore, there were a variety of sound effects that added to the exploration of an area, such as hearing the creak of a wooden door opening or maybe the sticky sound of running over muddy ground. If not that, then how about the baby crying in the background of a graveyard? That could have the player thinking that something is not pleasant about the mood of that environment. When it comes to replay value, BFD included several multiplayer modes of variety (along with some having their own stories), and all of them being based on characters and gameplay found throughout the main story. Other modes offered new experiences and each mode differed in objectives, which was dependent on sides of team-based maps or deathmatch modes. Capture the flag is available and even a racing mode was included.
While it didn't help with the frame rate, all modes could be played with several bots, humans, or a combination of both. 8-player matches would be less demanding on the frame rate than higher numbers, but it could go higher with a sacrifice to the game's frame rate, which did slow things down afterwards. Some other problems with BFD are with the camera during platforming sections of the game. There is a mix of first-person to look around and shoot, third-person for exploring, and a closer view in third-person, in which the button actually has to be held down, and it does not feel complete. Other angels of the camera have fixed perspectives, and those are fine for most environments. Although, it can really get in the way and couldn't always be rotated in every situation of need. The controls were not the worse, but are certainly not without issues. Aiming varied from one situation to the next by holding one trigger (R) down and firing with the other (Z.) Some moments of aiming felt too slow to keep up with some parts of the action, but other moments were just done just fine. I haven't used it, but the there is supposedly an easy mode cheat that should help to make aiming easier for the player and more difficult for the A.I. The game can still be completed without this "easy" cheat, but enemies will lock on to Conker during the story and they do have powerful accuracy on higher difficulties in the multiplayer. This may make the experience feel a lot less balanced.
Conker could strafe and shoot at the same time (along with multiplayer characters), but the process was not fluent and not quite as smooth. It did change from one weapon to another. Also, strafing could be done with C-buttons in using the first- person camera or the third-person camera. It definitely caused a bit of camera shaking that added to difficulty of aiming, but maybe that was intended. For additional differences that aren't cons, weapons allowed for character mobility, but others had more weight to them and required slower movement when they were taken out. Precision also varied with the fire of different weapons and there was recoil impact, which added to a realistic effect of firing on enemies. Some weapons in multiplayer would stop the player in place until their attack animation finished up. Characters could also jump with throwing knives and swords, but usually could not jump with firearms. In multiplayer, weapons (which includes grenades and bombs) can be found around map. If you wanted a different weapon, you would just go to that location on the map and take it. Ammo was infinite unless using grenades or bombs found around different maps, but guns still had to be reloaded. BFD just takes many different experiences and throws them all into one game. Conker's BFD is not only a 3-D platformer, but it's a third-person shooter, and even a racing game. There is so much to go around in return here. Chapters can be revisited and new saves files for the story can be created to enjoy the experience all over again. In fact, some scenes only play with a new game file, rather than in chapter mode. Otherwise, the multiplayer is another option that is both fun alone and with others around. If none of this is enough, there a number of cheat codes that will unlock even more content in multiplayer, such as cosmetic changes providing more playable characters and tweaks to the gameplay. (GameShark codes add even more unlocks that can be experimented with.)

Live and Reloaded

Conker Live and Reloaded served primarily as a remake. It was originally based on Conker Live and Uncut, which was meant to be a fully uncensored remake that contained multiplayer based more closely to Bad Fur Day's gameplay. However, that remake was replaced when Microsoft wanted Rare to actually spend more time to use the XBOX to its full potential. This led to Live and Reloaded getting created, which was a heavily-reworked Live and Uncut, but they are not quite the same in all aspects, especially not just with visuals. Even the gameplay mechanics in multiplayer had differences. Some aspects like the upgrade system stayed, but classes replaced the choice of looking around for weapons and more specific character models were created for each class, which all contain their own voices.
Furthermore, Live and Reloaded was more about taking something that was more cartoon-like in nature and making it more realistic. It featured many updates to the artwork, which added plenty of more detail to bring the environments to life. Speaking of the environments, new additions were included to improve on the look of the scenery. For example, the Spooky chapter had an entire village built around it to add meaning to the villagers seen later, and there was this massive cathedral outside the all-new gates of the graveyard. Mist was added to the environment to make it more mysterious and moody. It really came to life. Characters received mostly faithful textures over their original looks with some of the biggest changes on some characters being colors, clothing, and realistic fur shaders. Clearly, there was much more detail to see around this time. Other characters had gone through more changes to capture some sort of reference. Conker even receives more outfits later in the game, besides his Neo outfit from The Matrix, which all contain references to other roles. In other portions of the game, speed of gameplay experiences in the story was altered in some areas to probably make it easier and more difficult in varying situations, but these changes are not entirely obvious everywhere. There was one section that was actually changed entirely involving and a character (Big Boss Tedi) was removed from the game. In regard to the controls around gameplay, the camera has met a significant improvement. It can now be rotated manually in more places and it feels more smooth. Conker can move a lot easier when shooting at the same time. When it comes to weapons, Conker can no longer dual-wield SMGs, but being able to jump and move more fluently with camera control helped much with the gameplay side. Conker can lock into a close third-person view or a far one. There are still some spots with fixed camera angles, but the experience does not feel as problematic as the 64 version (which is still simple to manage, but was more dated in comparison.) Overall, there is more control with the camera in different situations.
Now let's discuss the animations and gore mechanics. While LaR does not have all of BFD's detailed animations (like bodies exploding with specific organs and limbs), it did feature some new ones, especially to add facial expressions to certain scenes, along with new gameplay changes. However, body explosions with gore was generic with pools of blood and meat pieces. Sometimes, a heart/organ would be left behind and that was about it. The next parts are mostly for multiplayer. Bodies could be blown halfway off if a player cooked their frag grenade too long without throwing it. Head decapitations were still brutal as ever (specifically from Sneeker gameplay), and actually contained facial expressions at a sight of shock on the victim's chopped off head. While gore lacks some of the animation and detailed quality of BFD's limb separation or organs flying out, it can still be full of moments with some nasty situations. Also, bodies stay behind longer in LaR, but eventually switch to a lower resolution model, which actually works to make the body look more dead and faded out of the war environment. In some creepier circumstances, if someone was shot in the head with a sniper rifle, the head would be left behind and the body would eventually disappear without it. It makes the environment look a lot more messy, especially with blood stains on the ground. The leftover gore (from heads laying around) is most-noticeable on the map of Spamono. I don't know if it was intended or not, but maybe it has something to do with the map space.
LaR does not necessarily have all of the original content and multiplayer from BFD, but it did include a new mode with several maps as a replacement. The game added vehicles beyond a simple tank mode. Terminals are used for vehicles, sentry turrets, and replacing grenades used. Additionally, they include extra features for certain classes, such as mines for demolishers and long rangers. This is considering that the new multiplayer was primarily focused as a team-based shooter with classes and abilities. Weapons are tied to classes, so if a player wanted to use different weapons, vehicles, or abilities, they would change classes. Maps included objectives that could be turned on and off, and could be played with the maximum number of bots that hardly makes a difference in the frame rate. One map is like capture the flag and two others are like variants of that gameplay-focused objective. The multiplayer is not just about new gameplay, but it even had the bonus of a story mode, which could be viewed as partially as a prequel and sequel to BFD. There was an added mix of alternative history from the combination of the Old War and Future War timelines, but it actually fits together to add sense to the BFD story. Also, LaR added back content removed from BFD, such as the squirrels getting executed during the War chapter, and this makes that scene feel much less empty. Previous sound effects were improved to be heard louder and clearer, and even some new ones were added for weapon changes. Rock Solid had an extra song added to the club's playlist, and still contained the original song in place. All of the music featured remastered enhancements. However, it is notable that The Great Mighty Poo song was censored excessively, which kills off the old meaning, even if it can still be implied. Also, even though BFD had censored language and even disabled or removed content, LaR added more censored language than BFD.
Other than that though, there are a lot of changes in Live and Reloaded that improved the experience from a set of new perspectives in gameplay and art style. The multiplayer mode is still a lot of fun in its own ways, and it pays respect to extra plot events.
Both Bad Fur Day and Live and Reloaded can be great experiences packed full of fun and humor-filled mature moments in the story mode! They do have their advantages and disadvantages from each other in gameplay and visuals, but either version can be enjoyed by a Conker fan or newcomer that loves to play a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, and is full of gameplay variety, which would be an interest of those that like to replay games repeatedly after finishing them. There is plenty of multiplayer fun to be had with bots (or local players if you have them.) If you still haven't played one other version, then I highly recommend it at some point.
Other info:
(Some of you may know this already.)
Rare Replay has a port of the 64 version, but be aware that all Nintendo-based content and other features were removed, such as the N64 logo getting sawed, the GBC animation and its music, or a dirty magazine taken out. The XBOX version of Live and Reloaded can be downloaded from the XBL marketplace, and it is playable on the Xbox One or the Xbox 360 (if you have either of those.) When it plays on the 360, there are more graphical glitches due to poor emulation. The Xbox One version actually has superior emulation and performance. The emulation is more accurate on the One and even brought back the loading screen images. The Xbox Live mode on Live and Reloaded is still dead. No new online servers are implemented into the current digital version available.
Otherwise, I have seen the disc going for much cheaper these days (or time of this post), which was likely due to transitions to digital versions by some gamers/collectors, and more physical copies turning up online. Of course this is also dependent on where you live. The same might be true for Bad Fur Day with Rare Replay.

2020.09.16 18:43 The_Hateful_Kate Legendary Animals - Hunting Guide 🤠👍

I previously posted a version of this, and now that I have killed, skinned and sampled all of the Legendary Animals currently in RDO, I thought I would post a final updated version.
Animal Pheromones – Many people, myself included, were confused by these. They will NOT make an animal spawn. They will only help to pin point their location ONCE you see the yellow question mark nearby. So, whilst I am not sure it is worth buying the pamphlet to create this yourself for $900, as it will take a lot of samples, it still does seem worth holding some stock from Harriet to make it easier if that question mark is a little bit away from you. I have very rarely used to Blending Tonic, so from my experience, this does not overly impact on how the spawn or react to you. As other have said, there also seems to be no use in any of the baits. They just seem to randomly spawn or they don’t.
72 Hour Cool down – A lot of people have said that there is a species based cool down. So if you kill, say, a Tecca alligator you will have to wait 3 days IRL to hunt it, or the Sun Alligator again. From my experience, in a mix of private solo lobbies and the recent empty lobby, this does hold out. Days and hours wasted hunting and finding nothing, backs this up. I previously said that this doesn’t seem to be true of the LAs from Harriet, as I have killed both the Wolf and Alligator and saw others from those species in Free Roam the same or very next day, but I would be careful, and plan accordingly. I now only do a mission for Harriet if I have encountered the animal in Free Roam on that day, to avoid any restriction on my future hunting.
Friends, Full Lobbies and Radoms – Some have also said that there is an additional 24-48 Minute same session cool down, but that this might be reset once you switch lobbies. I did more testing on this, and generally didn’t find another animal within one game day, but some within 2 days. It can also be the case that the 72 hour cool down will be ignored if you are with friends who have not yet seen the animal. Lots of people have reported seeing the same animals or at least the same species more than once a day. So if you’ve hit that 72 wall, it can’t do any harm to invite or join a friend and test this out. The 72 hour cool down seems very controversial, but is backed up by many, many reports, and having got all of the animals now, I am 100% convinced. You may say that you found the same animal in the same session, and even you were in a private lobby, but this doesn’t chime with other people’s experiences. Many people also reported that this was found in the code, but have been unable to confirm. There will always be exceptions to any rule, or bugs, but literally days of hunting on my weeks off proves that it is real. I feel it is counterproductive to tell people to waste their time searching continuously and adding to their frustration, even if it isn't 100% agreed by all.
Plan your daily hunting targets – As you will blocked from hunting species for 72 hours, I suggest making a note of the real life time you encounter the last animal of that kind. I now keep a list of which animals will be visible to me on any given day, based on the cool down of my last sighting. So if you hunt an alligator on Sunday, don’t bother wasting your time looking again until Wednesday. This will also mean avoiding certain areas on the days it becomes available again, to avoid accidently spawning in the other type of animal that you are looking for. So if you are hunting the Cogi Boar in Lemoyne, also avoid going near Thieves Landing to stop the Wapka from spanning in. I know this can be the trickiest part, but will be worth it once you get the skin and a sample. My tracker sheet will be below.
Weather & Time - Most user guides or videos seem to reference a certain time or weather condition required to find an LA. Or even both. In my experience, LA can spawn at ANY TIME of the day, and also in different weather condition than expected. Sun gator at 11am in the sun, Snow Buck at 11pm in the mist etc. I once even got the Moon Beaver at 10pm in mist, just after rain for example, rather than early morning or evening in actual rain. To me, this is more dictated by the last time you saw an LA and if you are due a new encounter, rather than hitting those tiny windows of matching time and weather. Not that it can’t help looking when the conditions are perfect, but if you miss the time window or weather window, don’t feel like you shouldn’t go looking just in case. I have found many more LAs in the last few weeks completely out of their cycle.
HideOuts & Moonshine activity - A lot of times there is an event that is situated near an LA spawn. My experience is to either finish it and come back, or to simply move away and fast travel back. But as others have reported, if there is a red circle on the map in the same area as an LA, it won’t spawn in. (Maybe if someone is smarter than me, they can find out the Hideout spawn cycle or times and highlight the windows that they won’t be there, but worry it will then just turn into a Moonshine event instead?)
Staying in one area – Out of the non Harriet mission animals I have skinned so far (and now skinned them all!) only on two occasions have I not been riding nearby. So I wouldn’t recommend going round in circles constantly to try and get it to spawn in. Go to the location it spawns into, and then if you don’t see it on one pass, leave the area and come back. I would recommend totally leaving the area by a local Fast Travel post, rather than riding away as that might spawn in random nearby events.
Trader Delivery – It seems that whilst carrying out a Long Distance Delivery will increase the chances of seeing LAs in Free Roam. This could be because it seems to supress the spawning of other random event. I can confirm this, having found 6 LAs from doing mine or a friends delivery. In fact, I even almost ruined a full $625 delivery when the Sun Gator spawned near me! I have even seen this occur when I have been doing Resupply missions, twice so far. I cannot confirm if the same is true with random escort missions, but you do often see another random event spawn nearby when taking someone home. There are also reports of seeing Legendary Animals during Bounty Hunter missions, so watch that radar!
Health tonics, Cores & Ammo – It’s always worth having some high level tonics close at hand when you first approach the LA. Some are super aggressive, and are also protected by fellow creatures. My advice is to instantly knock back a Level II or III health cure if you have one, and chow down on that seasoned big game if you don’t have camp stew. I would also recommend using something like a Repeating Shotgun or Bolt Action rifle, without the scope and High Velocity or Express ammo. I sometimes use the Elephant Rifle, but find I have to get too close and can risk being trampled or attacked. But I do like to keep a Repeating Shotgun at hand, just for close encounters! With good aim, you can drop most LAs with 4 or 5 slugs. So if you see a pack of animals, make sure to take them down quickly first, or they will probably help the LA to escape.. DO NOT use explosive ammo or fire, as this will ruin the animal. A good example is the Tecca or Sun Alligator. If you skin the LA and one of its foot soldiers kills you, you risk losing the pelt completely! The Bison too are nasty, as when they charge, it spooks your horse and it is then very hard to get back on before it escapes.
Photographing LAs – I often found it tricky to get the photograph of some LAs, especially Harriet missions if the animal is in a cage already. So, what I now do is sedate the animal, but DON’T sample it just yet, as this will end the mission. What I now do, is sedate it and drag it somewhere in the open. You can then get out your camera and point it at the beast. In a minute or so it will wake up, and you will have plenty of time to take a photograph. Once you get the update to your Animal Guide flash up, you can just sedate the animal again and sample him. Surprisingly, getting the photograph was always the most frustrating one to do, but with this method, life is much easier!
Animal howls and cries – Normally you will notice that the Legendary Animals howl or cry will be very noticeable and will sound similar but distinctly louder than the normal animal cry. This was something I totally missed but only noted recently. So if you know you are due a spawn, and see nothing on the radar, but hear a howl, keep looking in this area. Someone recently posted that one escaped but they could still hear their howl, so followed it and found tracks leading back to it.
Using the Map – The super helpful gamernick1 recently posted some excellent LA tips and mentioned using the map. I tried this yesterday and it was a very good method and saves you having to keep your eyes on the bottom left of the screen. Just define a route, put it into cinematic mode, and then bring up the map. I will do more testing with this, but strangely enough, shortly after trying this method, I got a yellow question mark within a minute! I had just delivered Moonshine to this area, so that probably supressed the hideouts but it was 11:30pm and misty, yet still the Snow Buck spawned in!! (He got away though as I thought I could walk over and take his pic)
Lost or Escaped LA – To date, I have lost 9 Legendary Animals. And so far, I have never found a lost or escaped LA in the same area, later in that time window, or within the same game day or session. The message advises that you should try a different area or another time, but having gone round in circles, or travelling back to area over and over, it has never re-appeared. This goes to convince me that the 72 hour real life cool down is correct. So if one of these critters gets away, take a deep breath… and move on to the next one! I know it’s hard, but think you’ll be even more frustrated wasting another 3 hours of your life looking for something that is unlikely to come back. I would now add, that others have confirmed that they have found the animal in the same area after receiving this message. I have followed LAs after sampling them and they run for miles, so this is a possibility I am willing to accept, but just don’t spend too much time looking.
Bugs & Wrong Spawns – Not often, but occasionally, people report strange issues with their LAs. Some people report they see the ? but no animal. Almost like it is stuck under the map. If you encounter this, it is probably best to switch lobbies. I have had two instances where I see a question mark for an animal I don’t want, so have switch lobby only to see the same ? in the same area on respawn. I then switch lobby two more times, and then the Sun Gator spawned in. I believe that, as I didn’t interact with it, it didn’t affect the spawn. I can confirm this, as I saw the Boar the very next day. I have also now seen two animals in the wrong spawn area. The Wakpa Boar where the Coggi should be and also the Sun Gator at the Tecca spawn point. As the point on Friends and Randoms, there is always exceptions to the rule, and as these aren’t game breaking, it is only frustrating if you desired the other animal.
Cripps or Gus – It would seem that some animals or pelts are worth a considerable amount of material for your Trader business. Anything from 18.75 materials for the Red Streak Coyote to a massive 58.75 for the Payta Bison Pelt! Strangely enough, the pelts from Harriets missions seem to give the most materials. So, these can be a super fast way to build up your trade goods for Cripps. Personally I would still sell at least one skin of each animal to Gus for the Garment Sets, or any future content, take you samples to get the 100% and then start farming them materials! The money made by simply selling these duplicates to Gus doesn’t come close to the time saved from hunting regular animals to fil up your goods, so bear this in mind So that’s all from me cow pokes, think this will be my final version, so I want to wish you lots of successful hunting, and feel to ask any questions or point out anything you disagree with
Oh and here is my tracker to make it a little easier to keep an eye on your progress

2020.09.16 17:27 Samara_Buckley_Derby The Beginning of the End: Chapter 11: Entering Munich

Summary: Fighting immortals is a sweetheart job for someone obsessed with the afterlife. Dying on the job, however, is cutting it too close. However, Julian's curiosity with the great beyond pushes him a little too far, back to the land of the living and cursed with a damned soul, just like the immortals he's sworn to fight...

Espionage may as well have been Matti’s middle name for how well he took to it. It wasn’t, of course. That honor went to the dubious name Casimir, probably after someone important, which he’d have learned if he’d had ever thought to grill his parents. He hadn’t, not in the sixteen years he’d lived under their roof, nor in the following four years of school. And he certainly hadn’t asked when he started sniper school nor since officially enlisting. He hadn’t spoken to them since. Too dangerous.
And dangerous was how Matti liked it. He was yet to have a real reason to believe his life was in danger and until he felt that, he had no problem pushing the envelope.
Which is why he was perched in the back of a helicopter heading out to Munich on a mission intended to intercept one of the deadliest immortals at an active civilian airport with nearly two dozen soldiers, some of whom were legally dead, while most were shoot-on-sight traitors.
Could it get any better?
“Find anything, Matti?” a cool voice asked in his ear.
“Clear for now, Pooja.” He gave the Colonel a reassuring smile and she nodded, returning to the cockpit. Last names had never suited him and as a renegade, he wasn’t obligated to use them. It was easier to empathize with an Amy or Markus than with a Brown or Khan. Knowing the name they heard from friends and family humanized them and that was important when lives were on the line.
They usually just thought he was being cocky and rude and he had no need to dispel that theory because, as a renegade, they were going to think he was an arrogant prick anyway. It wasn’t even really a lie, so…
The helicopter they all sat in—Matti, Julian, Pooja and her two operatives, Kyline, and her squad—was borrowed from Omicron HQ. No way could Schmidtt’s usual helicopter fit the nearly two dozen agents, so Pooja had pulled some strings. There was enough room to comfortably walk around, especially with the others mostly strapped in, a fact that Matti gladly took advantage of, roaming from window to window, popping up his binoculars to scan for any aircraft that might be flying under the radar.
He’d been disappointed so far.
In between his little lookout sessions, he’d make small talk with various operatives. Pooja didn’t like chatting when on a mission, Kyline hated his guts, and the other scientists he usually hung out with were, for obvious reasons, not here, so ‘various operatives’ mostly meant Julian.
“Gotta admit, when you said you had some questions for me, I wasn’t expecting this,” Julian said after Matti’s third round.
“Am I boring you?” Matti tilted his head.
Julian laughed, always a good sign. “No. But unless this is some weird renegade interrogation tactic, I don’t know why you care about my favorite breakfast food.”
Matti gave him a cool look. “I’ve watched you very carefully since joining the Fleursurgents. I need to make sure your answers align with what I’ve seen.” It was a terribly blatant lie, but not one Matti really cared about guarding. If Julian chose to see through it, good on him. Reality was, Matti just liked getting to know his charges.
Julian squinted. “Fleursurgents?”
“Come on. Fleur Insurgents is a mouthful and there are a ton of repeated syllable sounds there. It’s only natural that you should work a portmanteau in there. Saves time.”
“Lotta big words from someone with a STEM degree. Maybe you should have gone into linguistics.” Julian grinned, and unless it was Matti’s imagination, seemed to relax a bit.
Matti lifted a shoulder. “Linguistics wouldn’t have gotten me a job here. Besides, I didn’t go to an English speaking school.”
“Clearly, or you’d have caught the better portmanteau: Infleurgents.”
This took Matti aback quite a bit, because Julian was absolutely correct. That one was far superior. “I take my hat off to you. We’re now the Infleurgents. Clearly your English skills make mine look paltry.”
“Well, it was my first language.” He shifted in his seat, probably trying to make the helicopter seat feel more comfortable. “You said a linguistics degree wouldn’t have gotten you a job here. Did you know about this place when starting college?”
There were a few options for how an AngelThana operative might have gotten involved in the organization. A bulk of the scientists were poached from the public facing front: a nanotech organization that privately manufactured weapons and also somehow did some work with biotech. It was often scrutinized for guzzling research money and turning out rather few results but that was kind of the point of a public facing front. It’s just that the public didn’t know that. Hence ‘front’.
Then there were military poaches, outstanding soldiers who were approached at the conclusion of their official government military contracts. Outside of these poached soldiers, AngelThana rarely allowed for transfers to military units if the employee hadn’t been with the company for a minimum of three years, which explained why the minimum age of active combatants was 21 and not most military’s standard 18.
Then there were the nuts. AngelThana sent representatives out to anyone who found out about the immortals organically, whether from personal experience or obsessive web research. That’s how Matti got involved. He’d spent the greater part of his childhood chasing down conspiracies online because that’s about all there was to do in a northern European village, population: twelve, where the sun came up twice a year. He’d discovered some paper trails and various web footage that showed the same few people involved in a host of different terrorist attacks across the globe, a conspiracy he was surprised no one else pointed out.
It turned out no one pointed it out because AngelThana scrubbed the internet from all information of the immortals, with a rather impressive tech division. This was originally what they scouted him for until pretty much everyone realized he was a crap hacker. By that point, he’d requested a transfer to sniper school and anyone involved agreed it was for the best.
Most of the people on the helicopter had been in the second boat, sniped from their own government’s military. On the books, they were ‘security’ officers.
Julian was, as with most scientists, from the first group. He’d been scouted because of his academic work and pressured into taking the job with AngelThana.
“My official transfer to the internal department was about a month into my onboarding on the face department.” Julian had that glint in his eyes that the PhDs always got when they were about to launch into a lecture, and Matti braced himself. “The day they pulled me in and explained that honest to god immortals existed, well I thought I’d gone crazy.”
“Really? You didn’t think they had?”
Julian shook his head. “No! I’d always suspected so when my theories were confirmed, my mind was blown. It was like falling into a dream I’d had.”
“Lapinksy! Back on your post. You’ve had weeks to make idle chit chat. This is not the time.” Pooja’s scolding turned all the heads in the chopper to Matti, who smiled back at her, jumping to his feet in a solute.
“Copy that, Colonel.” There would also be time for idle chit chat later, so he had no qualms with resuming his watch.
“Alright we’re approaching our drop point,” Pooja announced, some few, uneventful hours later. “We’re officially on non-essential cargo pickup, so keep that in mind. Grace, prep your unit, but I want them down and out of sight until signaled.”
Kyline saluted in acknowledgement, her face rigid.
“The cargo pickup is scheduled to happen at eight hundred hours, so we’re here plenty early and should be able to get all of you off before they load us up.” Pooja began walking up and down the aisle of the ship, making eye contact with every single person on board. “I’ll be staying on board to handle the loading, with Schmidtt and Lapinksy. You’ll take your orders from the Sergeant and in the case of her incapacitation, your chain of command will fall to Agent Xing, Agent Jha, field medic LeDuc…” The chain of command was something they’d all been briefed on but redundancy may as well be synonymous with procedure because whenever someone said ‘follow the proper process’ it meant they wanted to you use enough fallbacks and extraneous measures that you probably could have accomplished three times your goal if you’d just checked something once or twice.
But for all their traitorous nature, the Infleurgents still followed their god damned processes to a T. Whatever. Matti didn’t technically need to know who to listen to but unfortunately for his ego, the chain of command usually made too much sense to ignore, so he rarely did.
The helicopter touched down at a tiny regional airport in the early hours of the morning, probably close to five hundred hours, as light as a feather per Schmidtt’s usual. He radioed in their arrival to the incognito convoy that was bringing whatever equipment Pooja had maneuvered into being their ‘target’. They reported that they were still about two hours out, which Schmidtt confirmed on radar scans.
“Copy that, we’ll be waiting.” Then Pooja looked up at Matti. “Give us a visual perimeter, make sure the area is clear of personnel or civilians.” She turned to Kyline. “At Lapinsky’s signal, take your men to the far parking lot. The convoy was instructed to leave one truck behind so that we could unload our cargo. Which…” She waved a hand at the soldiers, “is all of you. So stay out of sight until Grace gives the command. Understood?”
A host of salutes confirmed comprehension. Matti eyed Pooja and tossed her a slightly more casual salute before slipping into the night.
For once, the lack of complications wasn’t boring. The presence of civilians would have dramatically slowed down the offloading, suspicions from the convoy would have just caused drama, and if any of Kyline’s soldiers had been spotted, it would have really been disastrous.
All told, Pooja’s plan went without a hitch and soon Schmidt was flying away with whatever cargo they’d used as an excuse to hide their illicit actions. Matti sat in the back of the remaining convoy truck, squished with the others. These things were supposed to seat a dozen. While Matti, Julian, Xing Luli, the Iota agent, were slim enough to count for half a person, they simply had too many people on board for the drive to be comfortable. But comfort wasn’t a requisite so no one complained about being cramped too much.
The real issue was the lack of space to put on their disguises. AngelThana lacked the resources to intensely scrutinize every security cam feed on the planet to scan for faces that matched certain criteria. So the group didn’t have to worry too much about being spotted by the sophisticated software needed to match their specific face shapes and retina scans. But that didn’t mean they could slack off. They’d still need to play dress up to fool any AngelThana member who happened to be casually watching the MUC feeds in their downtime.
There were precious few people on board who knew enough about hair and makeup to make a convincing change to faces, so each agent had to wait quite a bit for their turn. Something to change complexion, darken or bright eyes, maybe thicken the look of facial hair.
“Do me dirty,” Matti said as he pushed past Private Amelie Silva for his turn. He scrunched his eyes closed in preparation for the assault on his face.
“Don’t do that with your eyes,” Pooja said, as he heard her swishing around some bottle of something probably wet and sticky. “It’ll make it uneven.” Pooja, along with Henri LaForge and Edmund Howards, was one of the only confident enough with her makeup skills to do anything convincing on the soldiers. “Hold still.” A bright light blasted his eyelids as another of the soldiers shone a flashlight at him.
“We should have brought Sofia,” Matti said, trying hard not to move his mouth. “She could make every guy in here a girl and vice versa.”
“Matti keep your mouth shut or you’re going to look like more of a mess than you normally do.” After a far too long period of getting paint slathered and smeared on his face, his nails and hands squished, his hair pulled tight and hidden under a wig, Pooja thrust an armful of clothes in his hands. “What do you think?”
The question was a little too amused for Matti’s liking and he cracked an eyelid to see the private holding the flashlight was openly smirking.
“He did say he wanted to be a girl. Think you did a mighty good job there, Colonel.”
The other eyelid snapped open. “I need a mirror. Now.”
Pooja held up one and Matti stared at himself. He wasn’t a girl, probably. Not technically. But he also saw where the private was coming from. “Pooja, you know ‘scene’ hasn’t been in since the early 2000s, right?” He twisted one of the silky, unnaturally platinum locks around a finger.
“We’re active members.” She shooed him to the side to start her next victim. “So our looks need to be a bit more dramatically changed. Us and Blake. If you’re going heavy makeup, you have to make it look intentional. That’s why you have the eyeliner. You’re now Alexi Petroff, 16 years old, so you’ve got to look like it.”
“Great. Back to being an edgy teen.” He didn’t really mind the look but it was far from comfortable. “What dramatic bit are you doing?”
“Inaya Hasmi, 34, traveling with my husband Tahir.” She pointed a bit away where Vikas Jha, the other Iota agent, was getting minimal makeup work done. “I’ll have a bit of work done but most of my face will be hidden.”
“Lucky. Would be nice if we all could just go the religious veil route.” Matti tapped at his face to see if his makeup had dried.
Pooja cocked an eyebrow. “Would have made us all the more likely to be stopped by airport security. Don’t need to increase those odds. Alright, you’re done Shanti.”
“Fucking most disgusting thing I ever got on my face,” he grumbled.
“Shut up, Shanti,” Matti said, almost absentmindedly. The private needled him with a glare before moving on.
“We kind of switched colors,” Julian remarked as he settled down next to Matti. The previously sandy haired man now had cropped dark crew cut, so convincing that Matti couldn’t imagine how his real hair had fit under it. His previously green eyes were now blue, much like how Matti’s blue had changed to green.
“Who did yours?” Matti asked.
“LaForge. Man did theatre through his entire education. I guess it shows but god my head feels like it’s about to explode.” Julian’s hand hovered near his scalp as if itching to itch it.
“Not a finger!” shouted LaForge from about eight feet away where he was twisting Luli’s hair into a tight ponytail. “Or I’ll cut it off.”
“Would he get back?” asked another private.
Julian’s body sagged as his hand dropped. “Here they go.”
The questions, jokes, and jabs flowed through the truck, lightening up the mood at the expense of Julian’s.
“You’re not a fan?” Matti asked. “You can’t deny, there are some good questions in there.”
“Yeah but they don’t want answers, they just want to snicker.” Julian sighed, crossing his arms. “But I’m starting to learn to tune it out.”
Even Matti had to admit that, after two more hours of the soldiers coming up with increasingly stupid puns, it had gotten old. He fiddled with his rifle, knowing that it would soon be locked in a very special crate, the kind that AngelThana routinely used to smuggle weapons through airports, past border patrols, and into government events. Matti didn’t like departing with his beloved rifle but there would be no keeping it on him.
The sun had long risen now as the truck pulled into a long term parking lot, advertised as being ‘mere kilometers from MUC!’ From there, the group split into teams, each with their own mission plans.
Pooja took Vikas, her husband, and the two headed the short walk to the public transport. Six of the soldiers, all dressed as spring breakers, flooded to the closest rental car place.
Matti checked his ID and the instructions on his phone giving him a rundown of Alexi Pertoff.
“I’m traveling with my father and girlfriend, huh? Haven’t had one of those in a while.” He looked up at the remaining operatives. Shanti and Henri were brothers, Amelie and Edmund were also dating. A few others were traveling solo. Then his eyes fell on Luli, Pooja’s Iota agent. She fixed him with a long once over.
“We’re dating?” she asked. In all fairness, she probably wasn’t much older than he was and with the high ponytail with a red streak in it, the loose bangs around her face, and too much eye makeup, she could absolutely pass for 17 or 18.
“I guess so. Which just leaves… dad.” He grinned as Julian looked down at his ID.
“Ah. Pieter Pertoff. 38” He looked up at the two agents as the remaining operatives sped off on their predetermined methods of transportation. “Never thought much of having kids…”
“God I must be like, the biggest disappointment to you.” Matti examined his nails, which were all black except for a red nail on each middle finger. Then he looked up at Julian’s tight crew cut and the lines on his face, artfully exaggerated by LaForge’s handiwork.
Luli laughed at the start contrast that couldn’t hide enough of a similarity between the two men to hint at their relation. “Alright then, team,” she said. “Let’s get our car and get to the airport. We’ve got an invasion to stop.”
Julian's got this, right? He can keep his cool and stick to his role... right?
Find out tomorrow!

2020.09.16 13:54 GeoffleeRee I asked a girl that I haven't met irl out to grab food, and she wants to bring a mutual, what does that mean?

Hi all,
A few months ago I (21m) was playing some games with a few friends of mine, and one of them invited her cousin in (18f). She went to the same high school as me, but we never met since she entered right after I graduated. At first we didn't connect a lot, but about a month and a half ago, we started watching some dramas online together, and since then we've gotten to know each other pretty well. Most of our tastes match and we are practically like the same person when it comes to hobbies, foods, views on life, etc. We started chatting more and more, and even shared things that are usually not shared between just friends, like watching each other take the purity test or the bdsm test.
I can't quite tell what is happening between us. I'm never sure if she's playing hard to get, or if she just takes me for a close friend and doesn't like me. She'll respond super late a lot, but nearly always responds. Or when I don't respond for the entire afternoon, she'll usually message me something later on. About a few weeks ago, we were calling every night for hours on end (even pulled an all nighter together to fix our schedules), but now that classes have resumed she's been more busy and we haven't really called much. We msg every day, but last time I called her was last weekend, although we do things in between such as play games with ppl + watch movies with just the 2 of us (online) over discord or netflix. Nowadays when we call, we don't even have much to talk about since we've exhausted most topics, but she always says that she enjoys just calling even if we have no idea what to talk about. I feel like we are growing apart but idk.
When I started chatting her up, I wasn't in the LA area (where's she's located and where I stayed for my entire life prior to this) since I had moved elsewhere for a bit to take care of some stuff. Now I have moved back and am super near her. She always seems super enthusiastic when we talk about plans or ideas to hang out (responding with things like yayyyyyy! with a bunch of emojis), but has postponed a few plans before, saying it was too hot. I invited her to grab some food this weekend (didn't say it was a dat". She said "haha sureee", but a few hours later asked if we could add the original mutual friend/cousin as well. I'm fine with her coming since all 3 of us get along really well, but I'm not sure what that implies. It could just be she's nervous and having the 3rd person would help break the ice since it's the first time we're meeting, or it could be that she doesn't want to be with me alone? There are still a few days, so should I tell her that I want it to be a 1 on 1 date? Or should I just go with it and see what happens after? This is the first time we're meeting irl. There are other plans such as me teaching her how to drive, which she seems super excited about. Every time we mention it, it's always something along the lines of "OMG SO EXCITED :DDD" but im never sure if it's real or fake.
I've wanted to tell her how I feel for a long time now, but I just don't know how to, or when to... I don't think randomly dropping it on her would be a good idea, but I don't want to wait too long either. I'm sorry for the long post and confusing structure or anything else that is an inconvenience. I was almost as lost about writing this post as I am with her lol. Also I don't want to make it look like I'm passing responsibility to reddit by asking all of this, I just really don't want to fuck anything up by doing something I'm not supposed to.

PS: if you have any advice for meeting her this weekend let me know haha, I definitely need it.

2020.09.16 04:02 flyinmacaronimonster Absentee voting begins in Indiana: Here's what you need to know

If you have not registered to vote, please do so as soon as possible. Voter registration ends on October 5. You may register to vote online using this link:
If you are at a heightened risk for COVID-19, including if you are 65 or older, or you take care of somebody in this category, you are allowed to request an absentee ballot.
Once you have received your ballot, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, fill out your ballot, and then MAKE SURE TO SIGN YOUR NAME IN THE CORRECT PLACE. Once you have done that, hand-deliver your ballot in-person to your County Election office. Drop-boxes are not available in Indiana. If you are returning it yourself, try to go as early as possible, at a time that is less busy.
Located at the County Government Complex at 2293 N Main St, Building A205, 2nd Floor in Crown Point.
Located at the County Administration Center at 155 Indiana Ave, Suite 105 in Valparaiso.
Located at the County Courthouse at 813 Lincolnway, Suite 105 in La Porte.
If you cannot return your ballot yourself, you may have a close family member, a housemate, a legal guardian, or a power-of-attorney drop off your ballot for you. If you do, you will need to sign an ABS-19 form.
This would be a good option for people who are at high-risk for COVID-19 who does not want to go out, and has somebody available, that meets the criteria, that can drop their ballot off for them. IF YOU ARE HAVING SOMEBODY ELSE RETURN A COMPLETED BALLOT FOR YOU, PLEASE BE SURE TO ONLY GIVE YOUR BALLOT TO SOMEBODY THAT YOU TRUST.
Ballots need to be received by your County Election's office by 12 noon local time on Election Day (both in-person and by mail), though try and return your ballot as soon as you can, preferably well before Election Day.
You may not return a ballot to a polling place on Election Day.
IMPORTANT: Indiana has recently changed its signature verification process to allow for a cure process for mismatched signatures. So now, you will not only be notified about a signature mismatch, but you will also have a chance to correct it.
If you do not have a valid excuse to vote absentee-by-mail, and need to vote in-person, try to vote as early as possible. Early voting (or, what is called “in-person absentee” voting) begins on Tuesday, October 6 and is available to all registered voters.
This location will serve as the main early voting center, and will be open until Monday, November 2 (the day before Election Day).
Starting on Monday, October 26 through to Saturday, October 31, early voting will be expanded to 4 locations that will be open every day during the week, including Saturday.
Early voting locations and hours are broken down by county here:
{Main voting location at the County Government Complex @ 2293 N Main St, Building A205, 2nd Floor in Crown Point; 10 more satellite voting locations open between Monday, October 6 and Monday, November 2}
{Main voting location at the Porter County Administration Center @ 155 Indiana Ave, Suite 102A in Valparaiso; 4 other satellite early voting locations open between Tuesday, October 6 and Monday, November 2; Mobile voting locations are also available at various locations on specific dates}
{Two voting locations, one at the La Porte County Complex @ 809 State Street in La Porte, and one at the Michigan City County Office Complex @ 302 W 8th Street in Michigan City, both open between Tuesday, October 6 and Monday, November 2}
You may also feel free to vote on Election Day if early voting is inconvenient for you.
If you have already requested a ballot but did not submit it yet, you can surrender your ballot in-person and vote at an early voting location or at a polling place on Election Day.
Make sure to have a valid photo ID with you when voting in person. Indiana has rather strict photo ID laws. Your photo ID needs to be valid to the date of the last general election, which is November 6, 2018. If you need to update your photo ID, do so as soon as possible. You can find a link to photo ID requirements in the links below.
Please be safe, and vote.

2020.09.15 14:36 Georgear1221 Microsoft vs Sony when Xbox is a Home run

Tomorrow, Sony will unveil more features, games, a release date and prices to promote their new console launch. It’s a very exciting time for gamers with Nvidia leading the way, every other major gaming company followed with information of their up and coming products. (Even Nintendo with a new switch next year I believe). I’ve been out of gaming for the most part in the last 10 or so years. I picked up an Xbox one S last summer used with a copy of RDR2 for $150 as apposed to a used ps4 that was going $250. Built my first pc with a Gtx 1650 super in July( knew not to go big because of all the new tech on the horizon). Now, Microsoft is shooting for what seems to be the impossible. Some sort of $20 dollars a month lease-to-own your console program, A-la mobile phone service providers....Then we have xcloud so you can use your cell phone to stream AAA game titles....The. Xbox game pass, a Netflix style online library of games you can download and play front to back for console and PC....AND online console play all for a total of $35 a month.
So, my point? Xbox 360 was sort of a golden era for Microsoft gaming consoles....the Xbox one was not exactly able to live up to that (my Xbox one S + RDR2 for $150) But this new launch seems to be the best deal in gaming we may have ever had, is there any way that Sony knew Microsoft was capable of all of this and if they could they possibly compete on this level?

2020.09.15 13:47 DraculaBackwards69 Vampire the Bad-Squerade

So this story kind of happened over a long period of time (about seven months?) so bear with me a bit?
My at the time housemate mentioned that a friend of his was running a game of Vampire the Masquerade. I'd never played before, but I was interested so I asked him to give the GM my name if he wanted any extra players. He said he would, and as it happens another player had to drop out. I received a message from the GM a week or so later- notably he didn't mention that my housemate had referred him to me, he just introduced himself as "[housemate]'s friend" and offered me a place at the metaphorical table. I rolled up a pretty typical Toreador- a gay rock star who'd been turned by his elder boyfriend after a life threatening injury. It's probably worth noting here that I'm a gay trans man out of character (have been living full time as a man for three years now), but I wanted to play the character as a cis man. The GM decided to make my character's sire a high-ranking member of the Sabbat, and to use my character to introduce that side of the political game to the players, which I thought was pretty cool.
My character had been assigned to investigate a murder in the outskirts of LA by the local Bishop, and just so happened to run into the other PCs, who had been assigned to investigate the same murder by the Camarilla. The rest of the party was made up of a Caitiff, my housemate (who I'll be referring to as 'Malkavian' from here on out bc we both moved out shortly after the game began lol), a Gangrel, and a guy who I'll be referring to as 'FishMalk'. There was a sixth player, but he dipped shortly after the game began due to an unrelated argument with the GM.
I received my first major red flag at this point. The GM- for some strange reason- insisted on referring to my character using 'they/them' pronouns, despite the fact that both I and my character are men and use 'he/him'. I sort of understand using them for myself- sometimes people take time to get used to me and I'd rather be called they than she- but the character was a slightly femme cis man who had never questioned his gender. I corrected him when these pronouns were used, but he persisted, and it began to become annoying.
We successfully managed to solve the murder, but as the rest of the party had trespassed onto Sabbat territory, they were captured by the Sabbat and put on trial for their crimes. My character appealed to his boyfriend for help, and we managed to get everyone off the hook, though they were given some busywork to do and I was sent along with them to 'supervise'. At this point, the Bishop called FishMalk to his office, where they spoke privately, while the rest of us planned out the busywork with the help of my character's boyfriend. I began to notice that the GM wasn't really roleplaying him as such, he was merely acting as himself while giving us infodumps on the lore of this particular branch of the Sabbat while calling me 'dear' a lot. To be honest this should have given me a whole Soviet Union's worth of red flags, but by that point I'd been forced to move back in with my parents for a short period, and a weekly online game of Vampire was my only social interaction that didn't involve being misgendered aggressively and repeatedly.
During this period, my character was approached by a strange woman who dressed exactly like Jeanette Voerman from Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines and looked exactly like Jeanette Voerman from Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines and acted exactly like Jeanette Voerman from Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines and was in fact Jeanette Voerman from Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines. She attempted to seduce my character- who was, to clarify, a gay man in a committed relationship, played by someone who had not at the time played Bloodlines. He turned her down, and the plot thread was dropped. I assumed it was a Rookie GM mistake- he wanted to have a reference to a game he enjoyed and picked the wrong person to drop it on.
It became clear very quickly that the reason why FishMalk had been called aside by the Bishop was that he'd been given the ULTIMATE REALLY COOL DEMON SWORD THAT ONE-HIT K.OS YOU. No I am not making this up, yes the capitalisation is necessary, yes this completely wrecked the tone. He went round stabbing pedestrians and blood-bonding the Malkavian for a while, until the whole lot of us got arrested by the Sheriff for Sword Crimes and dragged by the ear to the Prince's office to explain ourselves. We were told that we had to do more busywork to get ourselves off the hook- this time involving a cult that was going around yelling "Vampires are real and we will kill them for you", who had just so happened to kidnap my sire, so I had a reason to get involved too.
The cult had set up a stage in a plaza-type area, where they were playing gospel music and talking loudly about sinners. I, being a Toreador, decided to stage-crash. Me and the Gangrel managed to slip through the first line of security, but the Gangrel got caught up in the second lot, and I decided to press on alone. It turns out that this cult was actually made up of true faith wizards who had Jesus magic. Yes I know that's not how true faith works. They completely wrecked my character and set him on fire with magic Jesus lightning. It's at this point that I should probably mention that the GM was painfully Christian.
Unperturbed, I made up a second character- another Toreador who was the nephew of one of the cult members and hadn't quite gotten around to telling his aunt about the whole vampire thing yet. His sire was the head of a strange vampire death cult who were only allowed to operate on Camarilla territory due to the sheer size of them, but he was widely disliked among this group as he was seen to have gained his sire's favour unfairly. I thought he was a good contrast to my last character whilst still giving me some fun stuff to play with.
While my character was being introduced to the rest of the party, FishMalk went after my dead Toreador. Lucky for him, he had the ULTIMATE REALLY COOL DEMON SWORD THAT ONE-HIT K.OS YOU, so he got through without a problem, and all the true faith wizards ran away. Hooray, problem solved, we can go back to... More busywork.
It was at around this point that I began to date the GM.
I know, I know, "DraculaBackwards69, you idiot!" "DraculaBackwards69, you should have seen The Signs!". It was a stupid decision and I'm not proud of it. He was one of the first guys to show interest in me romantically, and a lot of the problems that I'm pointing out here weren't obvious to me, because I'd not really played VtM before. I was used to DnD, where getting an ULTIMATE REALLY COOL DEMON SWORD wouldn't be too out of place. Hell, the previous game I'd been in before this- a monster hunting style thing run by one of the best GMs I know- involved one player summoning a demon goddess and TPKing us, and I was enjoying myself the entire time (even if poor Trevor the hunter wasn't). I'm not saying this to justify my decision, but to explain the headspace I was in at the time. The rest of the table- aside from the Malkavian (who was and still is one of my best friends) and FishMalk (who lived with the GM and saw me come over)- was completely unaware of this, and I tried my best not to let it affect the game for the sake of the others.
We were told to infiltrate a complex owned by the cult, and rescue several staked vampires, including my old character's sire. The Gangrel and I attempted to feign membership with the help of the Malkavian who had possessed a leading member of the cult, while FishMalk and the Caitiff snuck in. The Malkavian found his sire's staked corpse and ran off with it, but me and the Gangrel managed to get a good number of the vampires out through the sewers. Meanwhile, FishMalk had found the dormitories, and was executing people at random with his ULTIMATE REALLY COOL DEMON SWORD THAT ONE-HIT K.OS YOU, while the Caitiff tried desperately to stop him. Eventually, the Caitiff managed to say something that made FishMalk drop to humanity zero and fall into torpor, but not before he had used the ULTIMATE REALLY COOL DEMON SWORD THAT ONE-HIT K.OS YOU to open a portal to literal actual hell. We vacated the building incredibly quickly, with our staked vampires and the body of the pop star Shakira who turned out to be a werewolf yes really.
We then ran into a gaggle of NPCs that was literally just the GM's self insert, Rayne from BloodRayne, and Agent 47 from Hitman. I am not joking. FishMalk's new character- a sexist Brujah assassin- was part of their clique. I'm going to continue to call him FishMalk because fuck him actually. Rayne from BloodRayne was also a Dhampir but didn't use VtM's Dhampir rules- she was just immune to every single weakness that vampires had while also having the power level of someone like Sascha Vykos. They told us to do some more busywork, which we did, and then we had to go kill the Sabbat for some godforsaken reason. It turned out that both my sire and Shakira The Werewolf Yes Really were working for the Sabbat- something which my friend who's really into WtA has told me is uncharacteristic of werewolves, but I'm pretty sure most Garou don't release best selling albums so I'd argue it's a bit of a moot point.
It was around this point that I started to question why the fuck I was actually in this game. It was bad and I wasn't enjoying myself, but at this point the sunk cost fallacy started to kick in, and I thought I should at least see it to the end. There was also the fact that telling your boyfriend that his game sucks and you don't want to be in it is kind of rude and likely to put a bit of a dampener on your relationship, especially when he insists on giving you gming advice for your own, markedly better games. I was assured that the game wouldn't be too much longer, and resolved to at least let the story play out fully.
We murdered the entire Sabbat- the combat sequence for which was so mind-numbingly dull due to the sheer amount of npcs it contained that I spent half of it messing around on the laptop I use to store my character sheet- at which point the last member of the cult from earlier showed up, possessed by an angel. I attempted to convince the angel to please leave us alone so the story could end, but nope! More busywork! The angel demanded that we close the portal to hell that FishMalk had opened up earlier in the game, which was fine I guess. We went through a weird flashback dream sequence, half of which was detailing the NPCs' backstories, killed a demon, and closed the portal. The angel showed up again, killed the Malkavian, and got killed by the rest of us, but not before telling us that it had been sleeping under The One Club From Downtown LA In Bloodlines the whole time, and we were only killing its vessel. The Malkavian took over Agent 47's character sheet, and we set off to kill the angel again.
I'm aware of the context in which I say this, but this, honoured audience, is where it gets weird.
We went through the stupid labyrinth and killed all the wights guarding the angel. We found a vat of holy water, and FishMalk- who had been praying to God the entire time for guidance- drank it, and became human again. I was somewhat pissed, as this plotline seemed more suited to my character (recently turned vampire, religious connections, had reached ten humanity by this point), but I quickly formed a plan to use the holy water to turn the prince of the city human and take over the local Camarilla, once our mission had been completed. We found the angel itself, manifesting as a glowing ball of light. We walked towards it, and everything went black.
And we woke up in the fucking Pathfinder universe.
The GM assigned us all fucking fantasy-sonas, complete with pictures he'd found on google images, forbade the use of disciplines, and set us off to go kill the angel in it's own dream- which was the excuse he'd made for the universe swap. It was at this point that I decided I'd had enough. I 'recommended' to the GM that he not keep the pathfinder shenanigans up for too long, because it was getting ridiculous, so he left me to chase a girl in the other VtM game he was running- who I later found out wasn't remotely interested in him. The game wasn't the only reason we broke up- we'd been rocky up to this point- but to be honest I'm not really interested in reflecting much on the relationship, mostly because it wouldn't be very fun to read about. He also expected me to turn up to a session the literal day after he broke up with me- my housemate practically tied me to the sofa to stop me from going because he was fed up of the GM's bullshit.
Fucking spectacular.
I continued going for two more sessions, both set in the pathfinder bullshit universe. We travelled through two back to back rip offs of Shadow Over Innsmouth, looking for some maguffin or other. Me and Malkavian were both fed up at this point, so I set up a game of Vampire the Requiem and I dipped. Initially I just pretended I was busy whenever the game was on, but eventually I formally told the GM that I wanted to quit, and gave him my reasoning (phrased slightly nicer than this post). He told me I was wrong and that he didn't want to lose a player, then repeatedly called me to the point where I just blocked him on everything. According to Malkavian, the game ended when the party killed God and drank his blood. I have since learned to leave games early if I see red flags, and I am never playing V5 ever again.

Title name: The Best Worst Year Ever
My favorite quote from this chapter: “The unexpected silver lining to a really horrible time in your life is that it can actually be somewhat empowering. It makes you realize how much control you do have—not over what is happening, but over how you choose to see it.”

2020.09.14 02:35 d49k Ghosts (Movie) MEGAPOST. Music, Videos, Links & Reviews. 1993 Is It Scary origins, Addams Family Values, false allegations, The Orchestral Score, 2 Bad, Is It Scary, Ghosts (Song), Morphine information, Commercial Release (Ad & Unboxing), 30 Remixes. Behind the scenes & concept art.

A couple of weeks ago, I read ‘Did I Scare You? How MJ altered the sensations of racism’. It’s a retrospective review of "GHOSTS" in which Michael's response to his critics is analysed. It’s a great read and very well informed, though I some of the comments it made I wasn’t so sure of. The review focused on Michael’s changing face, how he used it for art and it’s connections between Michael and racism. I don’t disagree with the article but I wanted to articulate for myself what I feel about the movie and put it out there.
GHOSTS is my favourite short film. Combined with HIStory: Past, Present & Future Book I, they are a set of artistic works which has been the most autobiographical of Michael's work. I wanted to share everything I know about it with links to behind the scenes, articles, music and information in one place. I wrote this to post on MichaelJackson, I’m not a professional writer or music critic, I’m just a fan so forgive me if my style is a bit messy. To my knowledge, Ghosts isn’t available on any streaming network and there’s no high-quality versions of Ghosts available online but this is the best I can find on YouTube, The sound is off and the picture is stretched from 4:3 to 16:9. Halloween is coming up soon and naturally we think about Thriller, Ghosts and few other tracks at this time of year. I can only hope the estate will at some point scan it to 4K and release it properly.
I can’t just write about Ghosts, “Is It Scary” and “2 Bad” are part of its DNA. Hell, the whole HIStory album should be included given what “Ghosts” is about, even “Morphine” could be included but this post is a biggie, so I won’t. The story of the feature film: “Michael Jackson’s Ghosts” is a far cry from the title of the movie and the track it lends its name from.
Is It Scary origins / Addams Family Values
In 1992 Paramount Pictures asked Michael to participate in the movie “Addams Family Values” they (and he) wanted a short film in the style of “Thriller” or “Smooth Criminal” as an insert (or independent short film) to help promote the Addams Family Values.
In 1992, Michael asked horror writer Stephen King to collaborate with him and Mick Garris (then director) to write a screenplay for the short film (with no title at this stage). The two wrote an outline of what eventually became GHOSTS and set on a title of “Is It Scary”. This was to indirectly match the Addams Family Values movie plot while also being autobiographical of Michael’s life. This is around the middle of the Dangerous tour between Tokyo in late 1992 and Bangkok in August 1993. The film was to depict local villagers attempting to exorcise a perceived villain or threat to the community, a theme which loosely runs through the Addams Family Values and prophesied what was to come in Michael’s personal life, after initial shooting began. More Info from AFI Catalog.
There’s a scene in Addams Family Values where Joel screams at a poster of Michael on the wall, another example of Michael being the punchline in jokes across the film industry and it’s a shame because they were using him originally to help promote the movie. More Info.
Filming for “Is It Scary” began in the first half of 1993 at the CBS/MTV studios in LA, the music scenes had not yet been filmed (The song, “Is It Scary” hadn’t been written yet) and Michael had to resume the Dangerous Tour. There are conflicting reports as to whether Michael was falsely accused during the shoot for “Is It Scary” or shortly afterwards when hr resumed the Dangerous tour, which he eventually cancelled.
The most obvious change between the versions are the Mayor. Ken Jenkins (Dr Bob Kelso from Scrubs).

This video features clips from both “Is It Scary” and “Ghosts”. There’s more behind the scenes exclusive to “Ghosts” later in this thread.
Michael Jackson VERY RARE Angry from Behind the scenes of Ghosts. (Actually, from “Is It Scary”).
Life Imitates Art
In response to tabloid and press speculation about Michael’s absence from the media and America, Michael Jackson’s lawyer, Bertram Fields released a statement included in this New York Times article in November 1993 stating that Michael was under treatment for addiction to painkillers and "was barely able to function adequately on an intellectual level" but added that this was just temporary.
Mr. Fields laid the blame for Michael’s addiction, in part, to "the rage, humiliation and embarrassment" over [the Jordy Chandler case]. He said it would be foolish to bring Mr. Jackson back to the United States now to help prepare a defines against the civil suit, or to be questioned by the child's lawyer, given Mr. Jackson's condition. This reddit thread from 8 months ago together with the Michael Jackson Allegations website and the Leaving Neverland Q&A episode of the MJCast go into the detail of the allegations.
Clearly, we can see that Michael has been hit hard. Midway through filming “Is It Scary” and performing the Dangerous concerts he is vilified by people who already have bias against him in a bizarre “life Imitates art” freak coincidence. It was during this time that the contract between Paramount and Michael was cancelled. Michael also cancelled the remaining dates of his Dangerous tour. News reports at the time were focused on his presumed guilt, the failure to his fans and the money he lost. I have only ever seen one article written at the time in support of Michael, written for GQ magazine in October 1994 8 months before HIStory was released. A copy is available here. Michael was understandably at an all-time low, I’ve never read anywhere that he got depressed but alas, he medicated himself using painkillers. I don’t blame him, do you?
A Quick note about “Morphine”: It was written and produced exclusively by MJ. Michael was more hands on for this track and played percussion, drums and guitar along with all lead and backing vocals. This is Michael Jackson without other producers or arrangers influencing the track. “Morphine” was going to be the lead single from Blood on The Dance Floor but Sony decided on the title track from the album instead. (Later for Invincible, Sony disallowed Michael’s choice of lead single favouring You Rock My World instead of Unbreakable). It’s tragic that a lot of people have not even heard of “Morphine”, not only is it another great MJ Vs Slash rock track, it’s Michael at his most vulnerable, “Morphine” is a cry for help which ultimately went unnoticed and unanswered.
Repurposing “Is It Scary” for Ghosts
With the project for “Is It Scary” now scrapped; Michael was free to continue his work. Deciding to rework a cancelled compilation entitled Decade 1980-1990 (it was scrapped in favour of Dangerous) and incorporating new songs, the resulting album became HIStory: Past, Present & Future Book I. (I could write pages about the HIStory album, it’s one of the most iconic concept albums ever created, a musical autobiography and a work of genius by a genius)!
To focus again on “Ghosts”, we need to skip forward to late 1995 after the HIStory album was recorded was released. Michael took control over the “Is It Scary” project and decided to use “2 Bad” since the lyrics are coherent with the movies theme. It’s conceivable that Michael had this video in mind when he was writing “2 Bad” in 1994. Michael was producing this short film to promote the HIStory album, before embarking on the HIStory world tour.
It’s possible the movie may have been temporarily renamed to “2 Bad” given that’s the core song of the production and the ID tags for the cast and clapper boards during production feature “2 Bad” instead of “Is It Scary” or “Ghosts”. Sony asked Michael during the production of Ghosts (Movie) for a new album. That ultimately became Blood On The Dance Floor, the best selling remix album of all time.
Working with Stan Winston in early 1996, the original script changed, and Michael would play several incarnations of himself ‘demonised’, (Hello Thriller 1996)! as well as the antagonist, who happens to be the modelled on the same demographic as Tom Sneddon. This is just as coincidental as the name “Dom Stanton” is to Tom Sneddon ;)
Ghosts Orchestral Score
The dance routines were choreographed by Michael and LaVelle Smith and Timothy Earl Soloman to the original score of Ghosts by Nicolas Pike mixed with “2 Bad”. (Nicholas Pike at Discogs).
MJVibe Interviewed Nicolas Pike in 1995 about the orchestra for Ghosts in 2015. Available here.
2 Bad
The version of “2 Bad” which features on GHOSTS is reworked, funkier, groovier and it’s a hard hitting, aggressive, ‘fluff the dust off your shoulder’ dance routine is just as livid as it’s angry lyrics.
“2 Bad’s” lyrics deal with themes of alienation and judgement. the song confronts his accusers, his gritty voice raises its volume and declares “You’re disgustin’ me” This is in direct response to people who have harmed him, people who have extorted money from him. Michael is angry, probably more angry than he was in “Scream” but that anger beautifully expresses confidence in his ability to recover from people who have conspired against him in the past.
A few days ago, u/Starfire asked “What aspect of MJ's life are you abnormally obsessed with?” and I’d have to say how autobiographical he is in his music and his attitude, full of self-confidence with it, “2 Bad” for instance proclaims “too bad, you tried I won’t back down”.
The Run-DMC sample at the beginning is interesting and extremely important. Between the Bad and Dangerous albums, Michael invited Run-DMC to collaborate with him for a track called “Crack Kills”, they rudely declined. They even use semiotics in their music video for King of Rock to denounce Michael, symbolically stamping on Michael’s sequined glove from Billie Jean. They didn’t create this anti-Michael movement but they were following what was unfortunately becoming the mainstream opinion about Michael at the time, criticizing him for his looks and eccentricities instead of enjoying the work he did. It was the end of making fun out of Michael but it was the start of him becoming demonised by the press and ridiculed by the the public. Something which didn’t end until he announced his final curtain call, “This Is It”. (Run-DMC later regret never working with him).
So what did Michael do? Use the first lines of lyrics from King of Rock as the first lines in “2 Bad” an awesome ‘Fuck You song’ in its own right but in Ghosts, Michael plays himself and parodies of these demons he is falsely accused of.
Of all the lyrics within “2 Bad”, of all the lyrics in the HIStory album, of all the lyrics he has ever performed...
“I’m Standing Though You’re Kicking Me” one of the most profoundly autobiographical, ironic and iconic statements across his music.
“2 Bad” was written by Michael, Dallas Austin, Bruce Swedien, René Moore, and Shaquille O’Neal (he wrote the Rap, Michael and Shaq knew each other casually). It was produced by Michael, Bruce Swedien, René Moore, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis at The Hit Factory in New York 1994. It was the third time Michael has collaborated with basketball stars (Michael Jordan on Jam and Magic Johnson on Remember The Time) proving once again that “♫ It Ain’t Too Ah-Much For Me To Jam!”.
After a gruelling dance routine, set to music which was modified on set so Michael could ‘feel it’ the song gives way to “Is It Scary”. (Similar music for this dance break is linked below).
Is It Scary
“Is It Scary” was written and recorded by Michael, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis between 1993/4 and recorded at Flyte Tyme Studios, Minnesota and Larrabee Studios, LA. Notably after the story for what became the Ghosts film. The lyrics for “Is It Scary” are based in part on the screenplay for Ghosts, Michael’s autobiographical story, an unwelcome eccentric man. The movie and song are symbiotic, considering the movie was conceptualised before the false allegations emerged and the song was finished afterwards, Michael sings “I'm gonna be exactly what you want to see, It's you who's haunting me” and “And if you want to see eccentricities, I'll be grotesque before your eyes. Let them all materialize! Is that scary for you”?
Michael is referencing himself as the victim, he is essentially saying “you will see what you want to see, you’ve already made up your mind”. It’s not the first time Michael has sung about himself as the victim. “They Don’t Care About Us” features the lines “Jew me, sue me, everybody do me. Kick me, kike me, don’t you black or white me”
On June 15, 1995, a day before the release of HIStory, The New York Times reported that "They Don't Care About Us" contained racist and anti-Semitic content. Michael responded directly stating:
"The idea that these lyrics could be deemed objectionable is extremely hurtful to me, and misleading. The song in fact is about the pain of prejudice and hate and is a way to draw attention to social and political problems. I am the voice of the accused and the attacked. I am the voice of everyone. I am the skinhead, I am the Jew, I am the black man, I am the white man. I am not the one who was attacking. It is about the injustices to young people and how the system can wrongfully accuse them. I am angry and outraged that I could be so misinterpreted."
— Michael Jackson 1995.
Michael has sung about his oppressors and the press before, “Leave Me Alone” is cry for privacy, “Why You Wanna Trip On Me” questions why him and not society, “Scream” is about… (read this instead) and “Tabloid Junkie” (well, that one condemns us all doesn’t it)? “Is It Scary” turns the tables, an anthem just as powerful as Earth Song or Man In The Mirror. Michael Jackson, the philanthropist and humanitarian the boy who the world watch grow up and young fans are STILL finding excellence in his work two decades after his final album. A man who has given up time and money to help children all over the world, a man now signing for his own justice, a man literally screaming at the top of his voice “I'm tired of being abused, you know you're scaring me too, I see the evil is you!”
And what is there to fear? Absolutely nothing. In the movie, after this track we’re treated to some funky instrumentals, taken from “2 Bad” that would make even Prince gasp and yet another dance breakdown. Michael isn’t present during this one but he doesn’t need to be. It is SIGNATURE Michael Jackson.
At the end of this scene, Michael as the ghoul, inhabits the body of the Mayor and uses him, his image and humiliates him In front of the towns people which is exactly what has happened to Michael. The entire theme of this movie is about Michael being persecuted, not only by Tom Sneddon but the wider public at large. The most humiliating point for Michael by this time was the strip search by LAPD two years earlier in December 1993. Michael released a public statement two days after stating that “it was the most humiliating ordeal of my life”. Michael, as an extremely artistic but also playful in nature, teases his accuser by trolling him in a dance short, then shining a mirror right back at him asking “Who’s the freak now”?
Michael Jackson, a KING, takes a bow.
In the last few minutes of the movie, Michael asks the crowd if he should he stay or not? He’s won them over already, they can see his point, but the mayor is insistent, the freak doesn’t belong here. Michael gives him what he wants, a self-destructive blow to the floor, turning to dust. There’s a look of shock and horror on the town’s folk, maybe even regret that they misjudged him. Guilt perhaps that they were the ones to instigate what appears to be a suicide right in front of them.
In the original version from 1993, this scene has the kids attempt to put him back together again, in Ghosts, his (ashes?) are blown away. Saddened, the crowd start to leave, and the movie takes a quick twist from sadness to humour. Michael is well documented to be a practical joker and he instilled his personality yet again as Michael appears larger than life in the doorway of the exit. The mayor scared out of his wits runs for the window and jumps out, the music and shape of the break in the glass has a humorous theme. Michael asked at the start this confrontation, whoever gets scared first, must leave. Well my friends, Michael had the last laugh.
As the credits roll, we’re treated to around 5 minutes of behind the scenes footage featuring the makeup changes and CGI featured in the film. The title track begins and it’s a slightly different version from the remastered version for Blood on The Dance Floor.
Ghosts (song)
Michael and Teddy Riley wrote “Family Thing” together in 1993 for the Addams Family / Is It Scary movies but they stopped production when the “Is It Scary” movie was shelved. No longer tied to the movie, a new song was created.
“Ghosts” was written by Michael and Teddy at the Hit Factory, NY & Record Plant Studios and Ocean Way Recording between 1994-1997, it was also intended for inclusion on the HIStory album (It was replaced with “2 Bad” instead). There’s a 1996 version of Ghosts with constant bass running through the track while a remaster doesn’t include the extra bassline. (Links below). Some of the information I’ve read about Ghosts suggests that the chorus is a logical continuation to “Who Is It” but I can’t see that myself, can you?
Ghosts (Production Including Making Of)
Stan Winson (director) was recommended to Michael by Mick Garris, (the original director). Michael called Stan personally to ask if he might consider directing the film and Stan agreed with only one condition: that Michael would play all the lead roles.
“I wanted Michael to play the haunted house guy," said Winston, "but also the mayor of the town, and an evil demon who comes in at one point. Michael wanted badly to be accepted as an actor, as something more than the King of Pop. But it was so difficult for people to get past Michael’s persona, I thought that the only way he would be accepted as a real actor was if he played all these parts, disguised in makeup, so that no one would know it was him until the end. And he was very agreeable to that idea.” GHOSTS Behind The Scenes at Stan Winston School.
Artist Paul Mejias was the sculptor for the model work on Michael’s various costumes.
Concept Art for Michael pulling ‘his’ skin and smashing ‘his’ skull. From makeup artist Miles Tevas. (Apart from Michael’s music and dancing, the scenes where he’s disfiguring himself in Ghosts have got to be the best across this short film catalogue).
VH1 released a 20-minute documentary The Making of Michael Jackson’s Ghosts right before Halloween in October 2002. It features the making of, with behind the scenes material and the detail of some of the cinematic illusions behind the production as well as interviews with the cast and crew including Michael.
The next link contains rolling camera outtakes with audio from the final cut placed over the top to add context. It’s another peek inside the production of the movie.
In the next video, the motion capture for the ‘Skeleton Dance’ is documented.
Ghosts held the Guinness world record for the longest music video. (Pharrell Williams holds that now with his 24-hour music video “Happy”. (How did Jon Beattie shoot Pharrell’s “24 Hours of Happy”?)
Ghosts was premiered for the first time at the 50th Cannes Film festival on 8th May, 1997. Here’s footage of Michael arriving for the premier.
In December 1997, at the end of promoting Blood on the Dance Floor, a Deluxe Collector Box Set of Ghosts was released. It featured a VHS of Ghosts, Blood on the Dance Floor album and “On The Line” Limited Edition Minimax CD. I bought the Deluxe Box Set myself on the day it came out from a Virgin Records Store. Sadly, I don’t it any more but it was awesome to hold a massive programme with great glossy photos. Here’s an Unboxing of the Deluxe Collector Set.
